Alcohol

Over time, alcohol can have a very negative effect on your health, access to alcohol makes you
not perform at 100% in your health.
Alcohol is a potent psychoactive drug with a high number of side effects that can seriously
affect our body. The amount and circumstances of consumption play an important role in
determining the duration of intoxication. For example, consuming alcohol after a large meal is
less likely to produce visible signs of intoxication than on an empty stomach.
In the United States, heavy drinking causes more than 95 000 deaths annually and shortens the
lives of those who die by an average of 29 years. In addition, heavy drinking was responsible for
1 in 10 deaths of working-age adults aged
20-64 years.

To help control your drinking:


Avoid people you would normally drink
with or places where you would drink.
Plan activities you enjoy that do not
involve drinking.
Keep alcohol out of your home.
Follow your plan for managing urges to
drink.
