Introduction

GOAL
In this hands-on workshop, you will create a connection in SAP Analytics Cloud to an on premise SAP BI4.x system
and import data from a Universe.

BACKGROUND
SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) allows for data acquisition from on premise solutions including SAP Business Objects
Universes. The data is acquired/copied into SAP Analytics Cloud. This exercise shows available functionality once
the pre-requisites are in place. Pre-requisites have already been installed and configured in the landscape.

PREREQUISITES
For connectivity, setting up a HANA Cloud Connector and SAP Analytics Cloud Agent is required to allow SAC to
acquire data from on premise systems. For more information on prerequisites, please refer to the following blogs:

PURPOSE
At the end of this exercise, you should be able to:

• Create a connection in SAP Analytics Cloud to an on premise SAP Business Objects BI4.x system.

• Create a model based on a SAP Business Objects Universe(.unx)

• Schedule a refresh of model from SAP Analytics Cloud


Create a Connection for SAP BusinessObjects Universe
In this section, you will set up a connection from SAP Analytics Cloud to an on premise SAP
BusinessObjects BI4.x universe.

1. Using Chrome browser, enter the


SAP Analytics Cloud tenant URL
your instructor provided to you
and logon with your assigned user
id.

Note:
Replace the XXX in the
“SACUSER_XXX” with your
assigned student number from
your instructor.

2. Click on the menu icon in the top


left. From the dropdown, choose
Connections.

3. From the top right hand icons,


choose the + icon to add a new
connection.

4. From the drop down menu choose


Import Data Connection SAP
Universe

5. Enter the SAP BI4.x Connection


details as follows: (replace XXX
with your assigned user id)

Connection Name: Universe_XXX

Description: Universe Connection XXX

System: localhost

User Name: administrator

Password: Welcome1

Authentication: Enterprise

Click on Create to create the


connection

6. You should now see your new


universe connection displayed in
the available connections list

Create Query and a Model based on SAP Business Objects
Universe
SAP Analytics Cloud supports connecting to SAP BI4.x unx universes for data acquisition. The
supported BI4.x versions are BI4.1 SP5 and higher.

1. Choose the menu icon on the top


left and select Create à Model to
create your business data model.

2. Choose how to start your


model by selecting Use a
datasource.

3. A menu will appear on the


right, choose SAP Universe as
an acquisition source.

4. For the Connection Name,


use the dropdown to select
the Universe connection you
created in the previous steps
ie. Universe_XXX where XXX is
your user number. For the
Query Name, from the
dropdown choose Create New
Query.

5. You will now define your


query details on what data
you will bring in. A list of
available SAP Business
Objects Universes are
displayed based on the
authorizations of the user
that was entered in the
Universe connection. In this
example, we will use the
efashion universe in the
Samples folder.

Enter the following where XXX is


your user number.

Query Name: enter a unique name


“Efashion_XXX”

Description: “Efashion Universe


XXX”

Click Next .

6. A query panel window will


come up to allow drag and
drop of dimensions, measure
and filters to the panel.

Drag and drop the following


dimensions to Select Data section
of the query panel:

Time Period >> Year


Time Period >> Quarter
Store >> State
Store >> City
Store >> Store Name
Product >>> Lines

Under Measures drag:


Sales Revenue
Quantity Sold

Drag Product >> Which Product?


predefined universe prompt to the
filters area

Drag Time Period >> Year to the


Filters section.
Choose the Equal to option and

click to bring up list of


values.

7. Select the year 2015 and 2016


and click Set

8. The query panel screen


should look similar to this
screenshot.
9. Click Next.

10. To answer the prompt, select


the first five product
descriptions. Left click on
each value to select it. Notice
how the highlighted values
are added to Selected Values
area.
11. Click Next.

12. The data is imported into SAP


Analytics Cloud. The seven
dimension and one measure
will be displayed as columns.

13. From the right pane, click on


DATA LEVEL and change the
Model Name to Efashion_XXX
where XXX is your user
number.

DO NOT CREATE THE MODEL YET.

14. Select the Quantity sold


column.

Under COLUMN confirm the


Column Type is set to Measure

15. Click the drop down arrow


next to Address column and

choose and Create a


Tranform...
16. Choose Concatenate.
17. Choose Zip_Code in []
18. Enter “-“ in [Value]
19. Press Enter key to apply.

20. You have now completed the


steps for modeling dimension
associations and properties.
Create the model by clicking
on the Create Model button.

21. From the Create Model


popup, click the Create
button.

22. The model has now been


created. You can see the
various dimensions presented
along with their descriptions
and attributes.

23. The new model is now


displayed as part of the model
list and can be used to
visualize data.

Setup a Schedule in SAP Analytics Cloud to refresh data from
SAP BusinessObjects Universe.
In this section, you will take the query details you created and set up a schedule to refresh
the data from SAP BusinessObjects Universe for the model you created.

1. From the top left menu icon,


choose Browse à Models from
the dropdown.

2. Find the model you created in


section 2 and under the Data
Resource column click on View
More link.

3. You can refresh the data from the


Query and model you created
immediately by clicking Run or set
a recurrence schedule.
4. Click on No under Recurrence
column to open the Schedule
Settings screen.

5. Choose the Schedule option


Repeating. Select tomorrow as a
start date, start time as 1 : 00 PM
PDT. Set the repeating pattern to
every 2 days and an end date
until end of the month.

Click on the Save Button.

6. The recurrence column should


change from No to Yes. You can
edit the recurrence by clicking Yes
under the recurrence column.

Congratulations, you have


completed the exercise.
