 Area and Population in
Uttarakhand
u The geographical area of the state is 53483 sq. km and the
terrain and topography of the state is largely hilly with large
areas under snow cover and steep slopes. Uttarakhand
State comprises of 02 regions 13 districts, 78 Tehsils and
95 community development blocks.

u As per the Aadhar Statistics the Uttarakhand population in

2022/2023 is 11,090,425 (11.09 Millions) as compared to
last census 2011 is 10,086,292. Growth rate of 9.96 percent
of population increased from year 2011 in Uttarakhand.
 Area and population in
Karnataka
u Karnataka extends to about 750 km from North to South
and about 400 km from East to West. Karnataka's total land
area is 1,91,791 sq.km, accounting for 5.83 percent of the
total area of the country (32.88 lakh sq.km) and ranks
eighth among major States in terms of size.

u Total population of Karnataka as per lastest census data

is 61,095,297 of which male and female are 30,966,657
and 30,128,640 respectively.
 Neighboring States of
Uttarakhand
u The state is located in the northern
part of India, bordered by the Indian
state of Himachal Pradesh in north-
west, by the Autonomous region of
Tibet (China) in north-east, by
Nepal in south-east, and by Uttar
Pradesh (India) in south-
west. Uttarakhand has a short
border with Haryana in west.
Karnataka
u The State is bounded
by Maharastra and Goa States in
the North and North-West; by the
Arabian Sea in the West; by
Kerala and Tamilnadu States in
the South and by the States of
Andhra Pradesh in the East.
Karnataka extends to about 750 km
from North to South and about 400
km from East to West.
 Types of
Soil
u Uttarakhand has various types of
soil, all of which are susceptible to
soil erosion. In the north, the soil
ranges from gravel (debris from
glaciers) to stiff clay. Brown forest
soil—often shallow, gravelly, and
rich in organic content—is found
farther to the south.
u The common types of soil groups
found in Karnataka are: Red soils:
Red gravelly loam soil, Red loam
soil, Red gravelly clay soil, Red clay
soil. Black soil: gravelly soil, loose,
black soil , basalt deposits. Lateritic
soils: Lateritic gravelly soil, Lateritic
soil.
 Natural vegetation and wildlife
u Uttarakhand is rich in wild life and
vegetation it include Cedrus
deodar, Pinus spp, Abies
pindrow, Quercus spp, Aconitum
neterophyllum, Paeonia emodi,
Swertia chiraOta, Bergenia
ciliate, Dios corea deltoidea,
Angelica glauca (Choru), etc. The
altitude above 3,000 metres is
general lyconsidered a zone of sub-
alpine and alpine vegetation.
u In Karnataka common species of
flora include Lagerstromia
lanceolata, Adina cordifolia and
Careya arborea. Mammals include
tiger, leopard, elephant, gaur,
slender loris and pangolin. Among
the bird species found here are
ruby-throated bulbul, shama,
Malabar whistling thrush and
paradise flycatcher.
