Pat Walkers Writing Classes


Pat Walker has a B.S from Indiana University, an M.S. from Anderson University and is a M.S.D. Lawrence Township retired teacher. She is a gifted and gentle teacher who can coax the most resistant writer to proficiency. Students read their assignments aloud for peer review and then hand them in for very thoughtful and useful critique and praise. *Registration required Sept. 7 - Dec. 14 (No class Nov 23) Cost: $112 (14 weeks)

Human Biology Lab Class


*Registration required Wednesdays 10:15-11:30 Grades 3 6 Sept 7 - Dec 7 (No class Oct 12, Oct 19, Nov 23) Cost: $137 (11 weeks) includes all lab supplies
In these hands-on learning adventures, students play detective and investigate the human body. Topics covered include bones, muscle groups, breathing and lung function, how the nose and taste buds work. Students observe and learn about the differences among people, build models of cells, chromosomes and genes. Students will learn how genetic traits are passed from parents to children, the different parts of cells, the difference between cells and chromosomes, and how genes function in our bodies. All materials are included in this very hands on science class based on units from Science in a Nutshell. Instructor: Lynette Quinn, gifted and clever instructor who goes beyond the curriculum to enhance and enrich her classes.

Toddler and Preschool Storytimes


Sep 12 - Nov 15 Ages 18 mo - Kindergarten *Holiday Storytimes Dec 5 & 6 Mondays 10:30 Toddler 1:00 Preschool Tuesdays 10:15 Preschool 11:15 Toddler Toddlers are children 18 months to 3.5 years and must be accompanied by a caretaker. Preschoolers are kids 3.5 years thru K. The focus is on fun. Enjoy stories, songs, fingerplays and rhymes. Strengthen early literacy skills and encourage the joy of learning. Each program ends with an art project, craft, or activity.

2nd Wednesday of every month 6:30-8:00 All ages Aug 10, Sept 14, Oct 12, Nov 9, Dec 14 Bring your cards, play the games, trade cards, and have fun!

Beginners Writing
2nd Thursday of each month 5:30 6:30 School Age Aug 11, Sept 8, Oct 13, Nov 10, Dec 8 Make fun items for your doll & hear an American Girl short story. Wednesdays 10:30-11:30 Grades 1-3 Classroom read-alouds and discussion will help form an idea about the structures that stories generally follow. Each child will use this "story sense" and lessons in the writing process to develop elaborated paragraphs. These paragraphs have strong verbs, descriptive adjectives and exact nouns.

Creative Writing & Research


Wednesdays 1:00-2:00 Grades 4 and up We will continue to address the Standards for Writing, Grades 4-8 and focus on expository compositions as we prepare for PSAT and other nationally formed writing evaluations.

Chess with Aaron Deans Learning Through Games Group


Locally famous and much requested, these chess programs are always fun & are excellent for developing strategists. *Registration required

School Age Stuff


Wednesdays 4:30 School Age Sept 14 - Dec 7 Explore different themes each week with jokes, crafts, games, snacks and other fun stuff. Once a month is a Jazzy Jewelry program.

Friday Oct 28 4:30 Ages 7 and up Get ready for Day of the Dead. Make your own papercut banners, or banderitas. Participants need to be able to cut well with scissors.

SAT Prep & Creative Writing


Wednesdays 12:00-1:00 Grades 6 and up This class is for young writers with some experience. Students will continue to develop expository composition skills and research skills. They will also learn how to properly note sources and how to write SAT essays.

Chess class
Wednesdays 6:15-7:05 Sept 7Oct 12 Cost: $60 Ages 5 to 14

Japanese Class
*Registration required Wednesdays 1:15-2:15 Ages 10 and up Sept. 7 - Dec. 14 (No class Nov. 23) Cost: $112 (14 weeks) Learn the basics of conversational Japanese! Writing lessons will be given in Hiragana and Katakana, along with many of the common Kanji characters. Through immersion, students will engage in conversational Japanese as they learn to communicate with their instructor and other students. Students will need to purchase 2 workbooks prior to class: Let's Learn Hiragana and Let's Learn Kanji by Yasuko Kosaka Mitamura. The goal of this workshop will be to introduce students to a self-study method in order to enable them to continue to learn basic Japanese on their own.

Paws and Read


Second Saturday of each month 10:30-11:30 All ages Sept. 10, Oct. 8, Nov. 12, Dec. 10 Sign up at the Children's Desk for a 15 minute time slot to read to a dog who is a very good listener.

Small class for all levels taught by the Learning through Games Group. Classes will be very fun and informative. Chess matches and fun teaching exercises are just part of what has made these classes so popular!

Read-a-loud/Sing-a-long
*Registration required Wednesdays 12:00-1:00 All Ages Sept. 7 - Dec. 14 (No class Nov 23) Cost: $112 (14 weeks) All ages welcome. Children under ten should be accompanied by an adult. Enjoy singing your favorite children's songs to acoustic guitar and hear the works of your favorite writers being read out loud. Our first program will feature songs by Raffi and the works of Roald Dahl. So come join in singing "Down by the Bay" and hear James and the Giant Peach come to life!

Fall Break Chess and Strategy Games Camp

Do your kids have a day off ? They can have fun doing chess and other strategy games. Not only will this be fun but kids will develop great decision making and math skills.

Homeschool Days

Black Friday Chess Camp
