The implementation of ROTC, is a good way for us to continue the previous generation and to become a

model for the next generation. as a students we can say that this is the beginning of our dreams, to
contribute our skills, and energy to our community. Furthermore,in our country the ROTC is one of the
three components of the National Service Training Program, the civic education and defense
preparedness program for Filipino students. Truly, the Reserve Officers Training Corps should bring back
again to every schools in order to be prepared as well as for training. We should choose and favor the
implementation of ROTC, because for me it is the way to save ourselves. Admittedly, this is a campus
program that provides students with training in leadership, problem solving, and ethics.

First, the reason why we should favor ROTC to implement is because it provides training
leadership, in this way the students have a chance to enrolling and continuing Leadership Education.
“Students may not be placed in leadership education courses without approval of ROTC Instructor or
sometimes we can call it as JROTC Instructor”. Moreover students can examine their own leadership
belief through activities in introspection and situation analysis along with military leadership traits. Also
patriotism, citizenship, basic rights, physical fitness, personal health, hygiene, and nutrition are key
components of Leadership Education through ROTC. In this case we can say that the implementation of
ROTC in our country is not bad news but it’s a good information to all, because it has a lot of benefits as
well as the advantages of students, it can also help to us to be a good leader someday.

Secondly, nowadays we experience and facing a lot of problems, but did you know that ROTC is a
problem solving? There are seven steps of problem solving and decision making; according to the Army
JROTC, the students who experienced the training about ROTC can easily solve their problem. The
student should identify the problem and this is the first step, in other words, leader/s do not always
identify the correct cause of a problem; in fact they make are identifying wrong problem and wrong
cause. to solve the problem, the leaders should know how to gather information, develop courses of
action, analyze and compare courses of action, make a decision, make a plan, and implement the plan.
These seven steps are problem solving processes, that we can learn in ROTC. In addition, if the students
had experienced about ROTC, they have a passion to solve their problem; so we can say that ROTC is
not about to help our physical ability but also to improve our thinking and mental ability.
 Lastly, we should also favor to implement ROTC again in our country, the reason is because it
provides students with ethics. According to the statement of Bertha ” Our society expects officers to
make hard choices, those difficult decisions that warrant a strong moral background”. Obviously that
every students can learn a good moral through education and ROTC is part of this learning. Also to be a
good leader and model of society, we should learn first the ethics, good character. In general, ROTC
should implement and I think this is part of our learning;so we favor for that.

In conclusion, the students should have good leadership,they knew how to solve problem, and of
course ethics. But we can learn it through ROTC. Nevertheless there are some that against to the
implementation of ROTC. According to the Kabataan party-list, they believes that the revival of
mandatory ROTC will increase cases of abuses and corruption. Also, “ROTC became hot bed for abuses
and cases of corruption” Sarah Elago of Kabataan party-list argued. Furthermore, some students said
that the training in ROTC is very hard;so they are against. However this counterargument that against to
the revival mandatory of ROTC have no strong evidence. If we think deeply, we can say that the cases of
abuses and corruption are very easy to solve because it depend to us. Based on the statement of BGen.
Padilla, if the youth will understand the reasons of the training, they will learn many skills such as basic
life support, first aid training, basic self-defense, combat preparation, survival skills and others. So, now
we can think deeply what is most important to favor or against ROTC even it has a lot of benefits and
helps for us. I think ROTC is the preparation of every students, and youth for the next generation. I am
strongly agree and favor to the revival of ROTC in our country in order for us to be intelligent, and
prepared.
