Pashupatinath temple

Pashupatinath temple is one of the most significant Hindu temples of Lord Shiva in the world.
Pashupatinath means "the Lord of the animals". The temple is not only famous in Nepal but also
around the world.
The temple is situated on the bank of Bagmati River. It is one of the Paadal Petra Sthalams (holy
abode of Lord Shiva). Only Hindus are allowed to enter inside the temple. On the other side of
the Bagmati is the temple of Ghuyeshwori. It also has the forest named Mrigasthali. Non-Hindus
are allowed to watch the temple from this side.
There are many monkeys living around the Pashupatinath area. Also many sadhus can be found
here. There are many other temples in the Pashupatinath temple premises. Some of the temples
are of Lord Krishna, Basuki Naga (Snake God), Lord Vishnu, Bhairab, etc. There is also a
submerged statue of Kali, the biggest sinner. It is said that when his whole statue comes out of
the ground, the world will come to an end.
Only the Bhatta Brahmins from India are assigned to serve the temple. These four priests are
allowed to touch the main Shiva Linga. The head priest is called Mool-Bhatta or Raval. They
perform all the temple works such as bathing the Linga, decorating it, worshipping it, etc.
