9 – LIVING A FRUITFUL LIFE
By Dr. Kenneth Gerada

 This material is designed for family worship during lockdowns when God’s people are unable to go to
church for corporate worship.
 What are the Biblical bases for this?
 The believers during the early New Testament time especially those in Jerusalem worship in their
houses.
 Priesthood of believers. Every believer is given the authority and the privilege to minister to God
and his people.
 Spiritual gifting. God has gifted the believers to function in the body of Christ for the purpose of
edifying or building the church. Members of the family are expected to naturally function according
to their gifts in this family worship.
 Ideally, it is the father or the head of the family who should lead the worship service. When the Father is
not available or incapable of leading the family worship, the mother or anyone in the family who is most
capable may lead.
 Several families staying in the house may join in the worship service.
 Preparations:
 Agree on a schedule. Ideally, Sunday is the best time for family worship service. You need at
least 1 hour for the whole worship service.
 Study the material. As a facilitator, you should at least familiarize the material at hand.
 Assign people to specific functions at least a day before the family worship. You need to assign
people to do these following ministries:
 Song leader – You need someone to lead 2 to 3 songs of worship and song of response.
The more people who know the song, the better. You need a copy enough for all the
attendees for unfamiliar songs.
 You would need a guitarist or accompanist. You can also opt for a Karaoke
accompaniment or a sing along worship songs as they are available.
 Usher or Usherette and offering plate or bag for the tithes and offerings.

 The one who will lead the opening prayer.

WORSHIP TIME

WELCOME
 Welcome each one to the worship service. Make each one feel comfortable.
 Praise Time. Ask each one if they could share briefly their praises and testimonies with the group.
 Say: Thank you for sharing your praises and testimonies with us. Today we are going to study about
LIVING A FRUITFUL LIFE but before we do that, let us first sing some worship song to the Lord. I have
requested _____________ to lead us in the singing of worship songs.

INTRODUCTION:
When you plant a fruit tree what would you expect from it after several years of caring for it? Of course we
expect fruit from it. A fruit tree is useless when it bears no fruit. God’s word says that as God’s children, he
expects us, to be fruitful.

John 15: 2He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so
that it will be even more fruitful.

God wants you and me, every one of us to live a fruitful life.

What does it mean to be fruitful?


A. To be fruitful means living our lives under the Lordship of the Holy Spirit.
 Meaning, the Holy Spirit is the one governing our lives.
 We listen to him and obey his voice through the word of God.
B. To be fruitful means living a life of purpose.
 God has a purpose for each one of us.
 We can discover our purpose by discovering our spiritual gifts, knowing our God-given passions
and desires, discovering how God has shaped us as a person and as a servant.
C. To be fruitful means living a life that is meaningful.
 Fruitfulness is not equal to being rich. A lot of rich people live a meaningless life.
 Meaningfulness is living our lives in accordance to God’s word.
D. To be fruitful means living a life that is productive.
 A productive life impacts and influences others to become a true disciple of Christ.
 A productive life exudes the love of Jesus and causes others to conform to Christ’s teachings and
character.

In what areas should we be fruitful?

A. We should be fruitful in our relationships. Meaning, we do our best to have good relationships with people
around us. It means we become a blessing to them. It also means that we must make efforts for
reconciliation with those people we have relational problems with.
B. We should be fruitful in our ministries. Meaning, our service to God help people grow in their relationship
with God and encourages them to serve God also.

Why should Christians live a life of fruitfulness?

 Because God expects us to be fruitful.


Genesis 1: 28 God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and
subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on
the ground."

 Because fruitfulness honors God


John 15: 8This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.

 Because fruitfulness helps accomplish our mission


Matthew 9: 37Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.
 Because fruitfulness brings about great joy and fulfillment.
Psalm 126: 5Those who sow in tears will reap with songs of joy.

The ABCDE of Fruitfulness

What do we need to do to become fruitful?

1. Abide in Christ.
John 15: 4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine,
neither can you, unless you abide in Me.

2. Boldly obey the Holy Spirit’s leading and pruning.

Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

3. Commit yourself to the Lord wholeheartedly


Numbers 32:11 'Because they have not followed me wholeheartedly, not one of the men twenty years old or
more who came up out of Egypt will see the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob- 12 not
one except Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite and Joshua son of Nun, for they followed the LORD
wholeheartedly.'

4. Discover and develop your gifts.


Romans 12:5 So in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.
6We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in
proportion to his[a]faith. 7If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach;

5. Excel in every way.


Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure,
whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things .
