Faculty exchange highlights collaboration

from Vietnam and China are currently in De La Salle University to promote leadership ideals and collaboration among Asian educators. Bui Hai Dang, vice dean of Research and Co-operation International Affairs and an International Relations lecturer at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University of Ho Chi Minh City, and Hongbin Pu, associate research librarian at A United Board member institution, DLSU had previously sent its own faculty to other countries for immersion and scholarships. United Board is a Christian program and grant-making organization with members from higher education institutions in 13 Asian countries. Its goals are to enhance faculty development and leadership, collaboration, and values such as justice, care for the environment, reconciliation, and harmony among ethnic and religious communities, and civil society. Guizhou Normal University, China, are both completing a fourmonth United Board Fellows Program.

Lasallian finalist in UK oral tilt

college of liberAl Arts student And stAr scholAr germAine chuAbio (cAm-bsA) emerged as one of the finalists during the International Public
Speaking Competition held in London last May 23-27. Representing the Philippines in the annual tilt, Chuabio was chosen as one of the top 6 finalists out of 81 participants from 48 countries. She was chosen to represent the country in London after winning the English Speaking Union Search in the Philippine competition last February. Chuabio bested other 39 local contestants from other universities.

2011 Star Scholars Recognition

welcomes nine new Star Scholars who made it through a rigorous screening process. Gerald Aaron Ang (CHE), Alron Jan Lam (CS), Marinel Eurlyne Mamac (CAM-ADV), Reich Rechner Canlas (CPE), Mary Annjaenette Legaspi (HUM-BIO), Clarence Joseph Co (CHE), Rogie Ann Vasquez (BSA), Stephen Laohoo (AE-APC) and Juan Raphael Sea (ECE) were formally welcomed to the University during the annual recognition rites held last July 13. Star Scholar graduates for AY 2010-2011 were also recognized. Included in this years list of Star Scholars graduates are Paulo Miguel Cobankiat (PSM-ACM) summa cum laude, Fredric Eron Tan (MEE) magna cum laude, Kenneth Gregory Yu (ECM-BMG) cum laude, Joseph Emmanuel Benito (BS-PSYC) magna cum laude, Nellie Margaret Chua (CS) summa cum laude, Maria Luisa Jimenez (OSDM-BMG) magna cum laude, Leah Villanoy (MFI), and Kristel Tanhui (HUM-BIO) magna cum laude. 2011 marks the 13th year of the Universitys Star Scholars program, the most comprehensive and innovative scholarship program in the Philippines. Through the program, the University has already awarded more than 150 integrated undergraduate and graduate scholarships to the best and the brightest graduating high school students from all over the country.

Evasco receives awards

the 2011 Ani ng Dangal Awards by The National Commission for Culture and the Arts last February at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Hotel. The Ani ng Dangal is an award that honors exceptional contributions of local artists from the previous year. The roster includes dancers, singers, literary winners, directors, visual artists, designers and even multi-disciplinary artists. Evascos published works in poetry and biography are included in the canon of Philippine Literature. The Manila Critics Circle gave National Book Awards to all her five books. Earlier, Evasco joined the The Outstanding Eight of the 2010 SEAWRITE Awards held in Bangkok. The Southeast Asia Writers Awards has continuously been ranked as the regions most prestigious literary event since its launch in 1979. Its selection committee is composed of seven members comprising three representatives from internationallyrecognized organizations such as the PEN International ThailandCentre.

Centennial Job Expo held

Plaza and Yuchengco Lobby. Initiated by the Office of Counseling and Career Services, the Job Expo featured 138 top companies which scouted for prospective employees from among the recent graduates and graduating Lasallians. Participation of a company in the Job Expo also meant contributing to the Scholarship Endowment Fund, which was established by the OCCS-Career Services in 2008.

According to ASAIHLs formal release, Universities must consider and value industry global work-place requirements and engage with businesses to redefine and direct work-based learning criteria to our students, in order to strategize for long-term sustainability. DLSU will host the ASAIHL conference on April 11-12, 2012.

latest exhibit of The Museum at DLSU features poems by DLSU faculty inspired by works of prominent Filipino artists, including National Artists, from the Wili and Doreen Fernandez and University Art Collections. In conjunction with the exhibit, The Museum also sponsors a series of art talks this July. Multi-awarded poet Mariano Marne Kilates delivered a lecture last July 15, and noted

Salazar will also be on campus on July 29. Entitled Ekphrasis: From Images to Poetry, the series tackles the medium and metaphor of language. The exhibit runs until August 12.
