2.3.1 Discussion: Building Security and Safety

5 Building Security and Safety challenges:

1.Installing Security Systems That You Do Not Understand/Poor Installation
One common problem in installing security systems at home, commercial area and other premises is not
having any knowledge using the system whether it is the sensors, detectors or alarm devices. Having no
knowledge or comprehension about the security devices that are installed can lead to many problems. Such
as not knowing what to do in case of damage in the system, the specific specs about the product, the area of
its operation. This can cause damage to the system and waste of money.

With that being said, one way to avoid these problems is to have research about the unit/system before
purchasing it. Know its specifications and area of operation to avoid wasting money. And check reviews of
previous users of the system to gain much more knowledge on how to operate it.

2.Not Securing All Entry Points

A Building Security System doesn’t have the complete set of devices since it has a unique feature in every
unit. There may be times that they have limitations when it comes to its capacity and operation. In fact, a
building has many exits and entrances or leeway. However, not all spaces are secured or 24/7 monitored
since systems are lacking. Thus, not having enough security around the area.

Which is why, the security personnel or officer-in-charge in the building must take note and double-check the
premises if all of the spaces or rooms have a securing system or if it is operating to avoid further risk or
bigger problems. As well for the users part, they should inform the security personnel in case of dysfunction
or no security system with that specific space.

3.Focusing on Looks and Not Security

All Building Security Systems or Devices have their own unique feature that is used for a specific purpose.
When buying or purchasing a Security Device, the buyer should look at its quality not the physical
appearance since there are instances that how aesthetic it is to the eye the overall quality is bad. It doesn’t
mean that choosing an aesthetic security device is bad, however the top priority in buying the device is to
have good quality then next choose its appearance. Focusing on the looks can hinder the buyer to purchase
what they need the most or the need of their home as they don’t really check the product if it’s the same as
what they are looking for- a good and nice quality building system device.

To avoid repeating the problem, the buyer should not be blind to the look and need to have more research
about the product first before buying. As well as to compare the product to other products and check what is
much better or ask the specification you need to the seller and the recommended product to it.

4.Lack of a home security system
Many homes lacks a security system or don’t have any devices at all. All people should have enough security
systems at their home to increase safety in the perimeter. A security system is very important and a must
have device installed at home since its purpose is to alarm the residents in case of emergency. In fact, it can
save more lives and to keep away from further risks. It serves as an informer or shield in times of disaster.
Some says it is a hassle because it is costly but the good thing is that purchasing a security system can
lessen damage and payment bills.

So it is a must to have security systems at home where families reside in or live in. Even if it is costly, just
remember that this will help you in critical times. Also, it makes the home a much safer place from bad things.

5.Installing incompatible security products

There are times that people forget to check if the device is compatible within their house or building. It may be
because they assume that all units are the same and all are perfectly fit to anything. However that is not the
case, security products have different purposes and uses and have specific requirements in order to operate.
This means that all security products have the same functionality and requirements. Thus, leading to wrong
installation, error to the device or malfunction.

To avoid this threat, users should double-checked its properties of the device and where to install. It should
compliment each other in order to fully operate. And to ask for assistance from people or check it on the
internet.

my own.”
