Caseloading with Student Midwives

Our philosophy:
The literal meaning of the word ‘midwife’ is ‘with woman’ and this idea of being in partnership with you is what underpins our care philosophy. We will
aim to get to know you and your baby, and to understand your individual needs, hopes, and fears so that we can work with you to develop a flexible
and tailored care plan. We want you to feel supported and empowered throughout your pregnancy, your birth, and the first few weeks with your baby.

How caseloading works and the benefits for you:

You will be looked after by your named student midwife - under the supervision of a qualified midwife from the Isis team - for all of your antenatal and
postnatal care. We can offer flexible times for your care, and can come and do your appointments at home if you prefer. In addition, your named student
midwife will be on-call for your birth, to support you through labour and the birth of your baby. In the rare case that your student midwife is unavailable,
another student midwife from our team (along with their supervisor) may provide cover - we will try and ensure you have met all three of us at some
point in your pregnancy so we are all familiar faces.

Further explanation of the care process is detailed in the accompanying “Caseloading Invitation”. Please remember that you can withdraw from our
caseload or ask to change care provider (midwife and/or student) at any time, including after your baby is born, and your care will not be compromised.

In addition to your routine maternity care, we will also be providing extra antenatal group sessions with the other women and families that are part of
the team’s caseload. These sessions, which are completely optional, will provide an opportunity to meet us, other local women and families in the
caseloading group (who will be due around the same time as you), and to discuss a range of relevant topics such as infant feeding, caring for your
newborn baby, and how to prepare for labour and birth. We want these sessions to be as useful as possible, and so their content will be guided by the
needs and suggestions of the group. So if there is anything around pregnancy, labour, or caring for your baby that you would like to explore, please do
let us know and we will try to incorporate this. We will try to arrange sessions at a time and location that suits as many people as possible.

We hope you will consider joining us as part of our caseloading group, and please do get in touch if you have any questions. Regardless of whether
you decide to join or not, we look forward to meeting you and your families over the next year as part of the Isis midwifery team.
