How do those best practices apply in the port, shipping and intermodal transport sectors of Sri Lanka?

Sri Lanka is a viable target for access and supply development due to its strategic positioning
between the major ports and airlines in the South Asian region. The country's proximity to
emerging markets, as well as the already built Colombo and Hambantota ports, make it a major
hub in the region, providing world-class shipping, access and anti-ship services to exporters.
Based on the volume of containers handled by the World Shipping Council, the Port of Colombo
in Sri Lanka has consistently been ranked among the top 50 container ports in the world by
other South Asian ports over the past five years.
Sri Lanka's desire to become a regional hub in the Indian Ocean reflects the country's
commitment to staying competitive in the region. The lack of infrastructure funding, however,
remains a key stumbling block in the face of tight budget limitations. Sri Lanka can benefit from
global infrastructure development and relationship building projects such as the BRI. Chinese
investment not only provided the required infrastructure for these ports, but also the
technology and modernization that allowed Sri Lankan ports to compete in a competitive
regional market. Sri Lanka will become more competitive by providing a wide range of port-
related services, improving connectivity, and establishing an appealing environment for new
ships and enterprises.
We know that all ship managers in Sri Lanka are under a lot of pressure. Chartered fees are
declining as a result of the large capacity of the market. This allows operators to compete for
goods while also reducing fuel costs, which is a critical factor. While trying to keep tariffs fair,
shipping companies seem to be facing the need to secure management contracts. However, the
liability requirements of the ships must also be taken into account. Industry professionals and
anyone interested in the shipping industry can test these best practices in their own operations,
and these ship managers can enhance those areas with the various approaches, business
models, and procedures that they use to make their operations safer and more efficient.
Environmentally friendly.
For a variety of reasons, certain industry leaders have long cited inter-mode as an appealing
aspect of freight forwarding. One is its natural capacity to maximize and exploit many means of
transportation, such as low-cost maritime transport, long-distance shipping, and on-time truck
transport. Then there's the intermodal's "green" appeal, as it cuts overall diesel fuel usage.
