Sir Thomas Wyatt, one of the most influential courtier poets of the Tudor period.

Text A is regarded as being a remarkably influential piece of English literature because its
author, Wyatt, introduced into England the Petrarchan conventions that are clearly present in
this poem. His work shows interest in the rediscovery of classical authors and in imitating
them. Nonetheless, his composition also contains elements that divert from the original
literary work that he used as inspiration.

Since he was a courtier-poet, he did not print his work, thus, his poems circulated in
manuscripts among a select circle and it was only printed after the author’s death. The
poems were published in 1557 in Tottel’s Miscellany, which helped spread “elite poetry”
among the general public and also popularized Petrarchism and the medieval courtly love
tradition, whose characteristics are present in this sonnet.
An excerpt from William Shakespear’s play titled Titus Andronicus, published at the end of
the 16th century. Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus is well-known for being a clear example
of a Revenge Tragedy, a subgenre of the “Tragedy of Blood''. The plot of the play is centred
around the planning and the execution of revenge, which takes place in an astoundingly
violent way. In this kind of plays, the characters see avenging one’s loved ones as a moral
duty which cannot be overlooked and such a belief leads creates a massive bloodshed that
is central to the plot. This subgenre has its roots in classical drama, and senecan plays
were regarded as a major source of inspiration for authors of Revenge Tragedy plays.

The plays usually also include themes such as madness, either freigned or real and caused
by the savagery shown by the characters. Intrigue is normally present in these tragedies,
since the final revenge is typically delayed. Machiavellian plots and counterplots are
essential in these plays and the resolution tends to be quite bloody, as is the one in Titus
Andronicus, where most of the characters murder each other.

In this Revenge Tragedy, Titus Andronica is a Roman general who returns from war with
Tamora, the queen of the Graths, and has three sons. The Romans sacrifice one of the
siblings and the other two decide to rape and mutilate Lavinia, Titu’s daughter, with the help
of aaron, Tamora’s lover. They also elaborate a plan to get two of Titu’s sons killed. order to
avenge his family member, Titus murders Chiron and Demetrius, Tamora’s sons, and cooks
their corpses into a wich their mother eats before bring killing her.
