Rationale
We have adapted to drastic changes just to cope up with the ill-effects this
pandemic has brought. Law-makers as well as administrators from the field of the
academe have exhausted all their efforts to continue the academic year despite the
hindrances and adversities of continuing the classes amidst global pandemic. Schools
have adapted to various learning delivery modalities such as blended learning,
traditional face-to-face learning, home schooling and the most common modality—
distant learning(modular distance and online distance learning).
Distant Learning refers to a teaching delivery modality where learning takes
place between the teacher and the learners who are geographically remote from each
other during instruction which can either be modular distance learning or online distance
learning. While we are concern for the health and safety of the students, restricting face
to face interaction to avoid contact from each other to be safe from the virus, have we
thought that we are compromising the quality of education they are supposed to
undergo? Have we thought of the less fortunate students, those who are slow learners
and those students with special needs? We are ought to commit with the principle that
no students should be left behind, but with this distant learning, are we certain that all of
the students are able to grasp the information and skills they should possess after
undergoing the curriculum?
While we are adhering to the safety measures our government has implemented,
we must also think of the quality education our students must experience. We should
ensure that learning still happens with whatever learning modality we should apply.
While making sure that our students are safe, we should also work on the kind of
education we are giving to them. No students should be sick, no students should be left
behind, and no students should be compromised with a good quality education. With
that being said, this study seeks to explore the effects of the distance learning to the
academic performance of the students of Busao National High School.
