STEPS IN DIVIDING DECIMALS
1. Make the divisor (outside number) a whole number by moving
the decimal to the right as many places as it takes to make it a
WHOLE NUMBER.

DIVIDING BY POWERS OF 10

To divide a number by a power of 10 like

10, 100, or 1000, we just have to move the
decimal point to the left an appropriate
number of places.
To divide by 10 we move one place
To divide by 100 we move two places
To divide by 1000 we move three places
and so on.
DIVIDING BY POWERS OF 10
Examples:

1.25 ÷ 10 = 0.125
15.6 ÷ 100 = 0.156
17.2 ÷ 1,000 = 0.0172
125.9 ÷ 10,000 = 0.01259
Dividing by of 0.1,0.01,0.001…
To divide a number by a 0.1, 0.01, 0.001…,
we just have to move the decimal point to
the right of an appropriate number of
places.

To divide by 0.1 we move one place

To divide by 0.01 we move two places
To divide by 0.001 we move three places
and so on.
DIVIDING BY POWERS OF 10
Examples:
1.45 ÷ 0.1 = 14.5
7.5 ÷ 0.01 = 750
1.256 ÷ 0.001= 1,256
36.2 ÷ 0.01 = 3,620
DIVIDING BY POWERS OF 10

45.2 ÷ 0.01 = 4,520

1.36 ÷ 100 = 0.0136
0.72 ÷ 0.1 = 7.2
125.9 ÷ 0.01 = 12,590
8.5 ÷ 10 = 0.85
