2. Formulate the null and alternative hypothesis of the following problems.

a. A department store is interested to know if their average profit this year
decreased as compared to 30 percent last year.

H 0: μ = 30 (The average profit of the department store this year did not
decreased as compared to 30percent last year.)

H 1: μ ≠ 30 (The average profit of the department store this year did

decreased as compared to30 percent last year.)
b. Five brands of batteries are tested to show their difference based on their
average battery lives.
H 0: µ1=µ2 (There is no difference on the average battery lives of the five
brands of batteries.)
H 1: µ1 ≠ µ 2 (There is a difference on the average battery lives of the five
brands of batteries.)
3. A teacher wishes to know if there is a relationship between the entrance
exam scores of a number of his freshmen students and their midterm
grades. The data is shown below:
Compute for the correlation coefficient and determine the regression equation of
the problem below.

Supposed we want to know the grade (y’) of the student if he/she studies in (x) hours.

y’= 8.60014409222 + (-0.07528818444) (x)

Let x = 9. Then,
y’= 8.60014409222 + (-0.07528818444) (9)

y’= 7.92255043226
let x = 5. Then,

y’= 8.60014409222 + (-0.07528818444) (5)

y’= 8.22370317002
