CHAPTER 1

THE PROBLEM

1.1 Introduction to the Study Area

Discuss here briefly and concisely about the problem you have

identified in your case study. Also discuss why it is significant to discuss here.

Also shed insights on the pandemic and its effect towards industries, sales,

production (anything related to food establishments – depende kung unsay

inyong idiscuss basta related sa inyong topic).

In the introduction part, the problem identified in the study should be

clearly presented. If the problem is about sales and production, discuss about

it, concisely. Also, discuss the need why the problem should be investigated

about in the line of your status as a manager (char lungz). By the way, it is

very important that you don’t use the words “I”, “we” or “us”. You may say, the

researchers, instead.

Paragraphs should be presented coherently. It should contain a topic

sentence and all sentences within that paragraph should discuss about the

topic sentence. Avoid writing one sentence only in your paragraph. It is a

grievous sin in technical writing.

The structure of the paragraph should also appear neat and clean and

in harmony with the rest of the body of this case study. Paragraphs should be

justified, double spaced, Arial, size 12 font.

4
1.2 Background of the Study

Discuss here the background of your study. Discussion may include

the pseudonym of the food company. For example, if it is Jollibee, you may

name it as Fast Food Company located in Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines.

In this way, you are hiding the identity of the food company. Afterall, there are

many fast food companies in the City. You may also include discussing the

product or services offered by the company.

Also include in the discussion when the ECQ was implemented, how

the ECQ progressed to GCQ and MGCQ. Also discuss the IATAF provisions

in each of these stages in the quarantine periods. Discuss who can go out of

the house, how to go out, about exit pass.

1.3 Statement of the Problem

Based on your presentation in the introduction part, and why it is a

problem in the context of your study, state here the problem and why it is

important to investigate the problem.

1.4 Research Objectives

Related to the identified problem, what is the goal of the study.

Specifically, to meet the goal, what are the objectives of the study. Remember

that goal and objectives are not the same. The goal refers to your overall aim,

while the objectives are the specific steps you need to take in order to achieve

the goal. Research objectives should be written in bullet form, using numbers.

For example, you will say, “Specifically, this study seeks to meet the

following objectives:

5
1. To define the beauty of myself;

2. To tell the world that I am beautiful; and

3. To share my beauty secrets.

1.5 Research Questions

Under this section, present your research questions according to the

order you have presented them in your research objectives. You may say, to

meet the objectives of this study, this project seeks to answer the following

questions:

1. Why am I beautiful?

2. What makes me beautiful?

3. What are the beauty regimen I do to stay beautiful?

Take note that RQ1 answers the RO1; RQ2 answers the RO2 and so

on. Parallelism is the key. I hope these ideas I am giving here will help you

when you do your thesis writing.

1.6 Definition of Terms

Under this section, present the important terms that you will discuss in

this study. You may say, “this section presents the important terms used in

this study, both conceptually and operationally, to permit common

understanding of the ideas discussed.

The definition should be both conceptual and operational. Conceptual

definition refers to the definition used in literatures and dictionaries., Take

note that you need to cite the reference from which you borrowed the

definition. On the other hand, operational definition refers to how you use the

6
term in the study. All terms should be arranged alphabetically. For example,

the word beauty.

1.6.1 Beauty

The term beauty is defined as “the quality or aggregate of qualities in

a person or thing that gives pleasure to the senses or pleasurably exalts the

mind or spirit” (Meriam Webster Dictionary, n.d.). In this study, the term

beauty refers to the physical attributes of a person particularly the skin

texture and color, hair, and body shape.

1.6.2 Hair Color

1.6.3 Skin Texture

1.7 Significance of the Study

Under this section, discuss who will benefit the results of the study.

These entities may include future researchers, teachers, students,

school/university/institute administrations, policy makers, etc. Also discuss

how these entities will benefit from the result of the study.

1.8 Scope and Delimitation of the Study

Discuss here the scope and the limitations of the study. For example,

discuss the scope which included food establishments because it is within

the bounds of your expertise studies. Also, discuss why you only investigate

only the communication among personnel aspect of the company and no

7
including the sales, marketing strategies and so on… in this way, you are

telling the readers the limit or the boundaries of your study.

1.9 Summary

Here, you summarize chapter 1. Concisely discuss what the study is

all about, why it is a problem that need to be investigated, what are the

research objectives and to which entities the study will be

beneficial/Significant.

CHAPTER II

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURES

2.1 Introduction

Discuss here the need to do literature review, and the flow of the

discussion.

2.2 The Problem That You are Interested to Investigate

Here, you discuss about the problem that you have identified and you

want to investigate in this study.

2.2.1 The importance of Sales (if this is your identified problem, for

example)

2.3 Effect of the Pandemic Towards Sales

2.3.1 Effect of pandemic toward sales

2.3.2 The effect of sales problem to the food establishment

Discussion may include the management, Staffs/crews, salary etc.

2.3.3 Effect of sales problem to the public

Discuss the implication of decreased sales towards the public.

9
2.4 Hypothetical/Probable Solutions to the problem of the study

Discussions here may include best practices from other industries and

not limited to food establishments only. But the solutions should be related to

the problem identified.

2.4.1 From the International market/industries

2.4.2 from the Philippine/local industries/market

Present here the order by which you are presenting the chapter 3.

Also, it will be helpful if you mention the objectives of the study. Remember to

use future tense form of your verbs in this chapter as this is yet a

concept/proposal paper.

3.2 Research Design

Discuss here about the design of your research. Tell the readers what

is the design, who is the seminal author of the research designs, why it is

used in the study and how it will be employed in the study.

3.3 Research Location

Discuss where the study is conducted, and why this group of people.

3.4 Population

Discuss what is population, why it is addressed in this study. Also,

discuss and describe the target population of the study to which the findings

of the study will be generalized into.

3.5 Sample and Sampling Procedure

Discuss the sample of the proposed study, and the sampling

techniques by which these samples are chosen from the population. Discuss

11
what is the sampling technique use, the reason why you employ it in your

study and how you will utilize it in your study.

3.6 Research Instrument

Explain the research instrument to me used. Discuss how the

instrument will be validated. Also discuss from whom you borrowed the

research instrument, and be sure to cite the original author of the research

instrument. What ate the variables to be measured, how many items each

variable/construct? How to measure: is it Likert scale, or hedonic scale?

3.7 Data Collection Methods

Discuss how you collected the data, the procedure, how you contacted

the contact persons. Also discuss the questions you asked during the

interview. When you discuss, mention the number of the table, and

immediately after the paragraph where the table number is mentioned.

Present the table. Remember that the font size for you table should be one

smaller that the font size of your body text.

3.8 Data Analysis Techniques
