Consider the following datasets
For the dataset available on BlackBoard../ Datasets/Frequency Distributions determine
a) Cross tabulation table between the two categorical variables Athlete and Smoking
b) Cross tabulation table between the three categorical variables Athlete, Smoking and Gender
c) Find probability distribution between the categorical variables Athlete and Smoking
d) Find probability distribution between the categorical variables Athlete, Smoking and Gender .
Taking Gender in Layer. Swap the variables among layers and determine how the probability
changes.

Question No. 1
In a college there are 300 male students such that 80 study in section A, 60 study in section B, 90
study in section C and 70 study in section D. In the same college there are 75 female students
such that 20 study in section A, 15 in section B, 30 study in section C and 10 study in section D.
Represent the following dataset in a cross tabulation table.

Question No. 2
Using the table below, to what percentage a stock market index will decrease when

a) there is a rise in interest rates

b) there is a decline in interest rates
Interest Rates

Stock Decline Increase

Price Decrease 200 950

Increase 800 50

Question No. 3
In an experimental research, a researcher is interested take a survey of the response of his
newly produced chocolates from a sample.

The survey was carried out about likeness of chocolates in a class of 40 male and 45 female
students. In this class of 85 students, 20 rated the chocolates as very good, 28 rated them
good, 16 rated average and 21 as below average. Out of 40 male students, 12 rated very good,
13 as good, 8 rated average and 7 as lower average students. Out of 45 female students 8
rated very good,15 rated good, 8 as average and 14 as lower average.

a) Summarize the provided data in the form of a cross tabulation table and clustered bar
charts.
b) If the researcher classifies the sample in terms of gender then what are the percentages of
getting response value very good, good, average and below average for males and
females? Show your results in terms of a probability/frequency clustered bar charts.

Question No. 4
Suppose in a class there are 32 males, 35 females, 26 Muslims, 20 Hindus and 21 Christian
students. Out of 32 male students, 15 are Muslims, 10 are Hindus and 7 belong to
Christianity. Out of 35 female students 11 are Muslims, 10 are Hindus and 14 belong to
Christianity.

Answer the following questions:

a) Summarize the above information in a cross tabulation table.
b) If a student is picked randomly from the class, then find the following probabilities
i. P(Male/Muslim)
ii. P(Male/Christian)
iii. P(Female and Hindu)
iv. P(Hindu/ Male)
