1. What is the extent of your language issue in the fall or leap of the dignity of a language?

One of the issues concerning the language that is included on the documentary I
chose to present is how millenials or children of today’s generation perceive English
and how they use it daily that deteriorates their use of our own language which is
Filipino. As a language teacher, I cannot deny the fact that I do encourage my students to
speak English as much as possible. In my view, it is an advantageous move to be fluent in
speaking in English for it can boost one’s confidence in speaking his or her mind. It can
be consider as power in knowing how much you can express yourself using a language
everybody considers as foreign and superior among any other language. One of the perks
of teaching our children to do more of English than their own Mother tongue or Tagalog
is that they can be globally equipped and ready to be independently competitive.
However, this may lead to a question of how patriotic we can be by showing the love not
for our own identity.

Language is said to be an identity of a place or where a person came from but the
influence of media in this century somehow adds a different view on this matter. As the
world changes for the better, so we people change our ways to cope up. That includes
changes in language and how we use the language of today. No matter what we decide to
teach our young ones, we should always bear in mind that language is what makes us
human. Whatever way we choose to use it, we have to bear in mind to keep it balance.
We can be globally competitive and still patriotic at the same time.

2. As a language teacher, cite and explain one flaw you found obvious as regards to the
language policy of the government. Suggest a feasible solution to the language planners.

The grip of English in the Philippines signifies an enduring and flawed image of
national development that is monocentric with an English-dominant core. It traces the
dominance of English in the Philippines frm its introduction as the medium of instruction
in the public school system during American colonial era.
The grip of English in the country may be mitigated by the introduction of mother
tongue based multilingual education (MTBLE). Teachers being deployed to teach grades
1 to 3 should be a native speaker of language in able for the language policy to be
effective. Government should be aware that discrepancy in the foundation of language is
a failure overall. Basic education should not be neglected, thus teachers expected to
know the language spoken in the area should be assess if they are capable to teach the
learners and to adopt language culture that will be the basis of the learning of second
language.
3. As a teacher of ESL, cite two theories of language acquisition discussed in class that can
be applied to fast track learning/acquiring of the target language.

Behaviourism

Behaviorist viewed the mind as something impossible to know. “Behavior was entirely
the product of external factor” –AsField 2005

Children acquire what they have learned from what they have seen and heard. Daily use
of the language can help children fast track the language learning well easily.

Connectionism

Connectionism claims that language is a system of patterns, which has been acquired by
learning mechanisms. The infant will develop patterns in his head; hence these patterns will
cause the emergence of grammatical language.

In learning the language one should know how to activate the L1 (Schema) of the learner
and guide him on how to use this L1 in developing the L2 (what learners are expected to learn).
Form solid foundation of what they have inquired as a child, we can input important information
that can fast tract learning as well. That would be all, I thank you!
