When it comes to great academic accomplishments, high educational levels and fine

learning institutions, you can’t but mention the name of our exceptional school: Brummana
High School, the name speaks for itself. Since its establishment in 1873 by the Quaker
Theophilus Waldmeier, its main purpose was to develop a modern and effective form of
education with focus on the learners themselves. Our school is founded on important standards
and morals, and it remains until this day aiming to follow the ideals and values of its Quaker
founders. There is no doubt that this school is one of the best schools in Lebanon, if not in the
middle-east: It was actually included in the list of top 10 middle east schools’ category,
according to the “Spears school Index” which is the only official international ranking top
private schools.
More importantly and away from its high educational rank, BHS has affected me
personally: many emotions have been developed throughout the years.
I have learned the meaning of having a second home, with loving and caring people. Since my
first day at BHS, we learned to care for each other and accept each other’s flaws. That definitely
helped us to maintain a healthy and peaceful environment. Each building, classroom, and
playground will always remind me of the laughs, the childish fights, the chats and the secret we
whispered to each other. It’s amazing to see all the people I grew up with still being part of my
life and still sharing lovely memories with every day of our stay here.

BHS is far more than just a school, it’s a mission. It seeks to find opportunities to help
others, our school doesn’t hesitate to help anyone with anything. Among students, the school
provides helping facilities so that students can help each other with their tasks and the material
they take in class. Outside the school’s walls, and following our motto “I Serve”, we are
encouraged to help other people and do community service activities. For example, BHS
students are in constant interaction with “Deir al-Amal” to help the people with special needs,
students are also involved in the breast cancer awareness month by hosting a bake sale to raise
money and donate it for help of this cause. Everything our schools does regarding helping
others teach us a great deal of life lessons, they forge us into being better human beings with
kind hearts. Most essentially, they teach us to stand by each other, and help everyone without
discrimination.
Since its foundation, BHS has embraced equality. Everyone is welcomed in our school,
they don’t care about people’s backgrounds, they just look at the similarities that unite us all
under the roof of humanity. We all feel accepted in this school regardless where we come from.
In this deep-rooted institution, and with the help of the people responsible, we never felt like
ordinary classmates and colleagues, instead we were given the opportunity to form a large and
diverse family where we all feel like home. In this matter, our school is also known for having
the “Edinburgh Boarding house”, that is a home for many students from all around the world.
This boarding was even inaugurated by Prince Philip, the late duke of Edinburgh, in 1967.
This beautiful atmosphere among students and the strong relations between scholars and the
people in charge lead to this high distinguished academic level and spectacular achievements.

I consider myself really lucky having the opportunity to be a BHS student. It’s really been
a privilege to be part of its unique and rich history. Everything about this school is special, its
architecture, its nature, its campus, and most importantly the lovely caring staff that work at
this school. All of that makes it more than just an ordinary school experience. BHS has played a
big role in building my personality, here I learned about respect and responsibility. We were
always pushed to give our best and to benefit from our skills and work hard towards achieving
our goals. The experience I lived and I’m still living at this school will always be with me and
accompany me through my whole life. All the memories I have made at this school will always
be carved in my mind and soul, these memories that I’ll be telling to my children in the future,
so that they know what a wonderful experience it was and how great this school will always
remain.
