Introduction
• Cyber crime
Cybercrime is any criminal activity that
involves a computer, networked device or a
network.
Most cybercrime is an attack on information
about individuals, corporations, or governments.
Cyber security
• Cyber security is the application of
technologies, processes, and controls to protect
systems, networks, programs, devices and data
from cyber attacks.
• It aims to reduce the risk of cyber attacks and
protect against the unauthorized exploitation of
systems, networks, and technologies.
Organizational Implications
• In the global environment with continuous
network connectivity, the possibilities for
cyber attacks can emanate from sources that
are local, remote, domestic or foreign.
• They could be launched by an individual or a
group.
• They could be casual probes from hackers
using personal computers (PCs) in their
homes, hand-held devices or intense scans
from criminal groups
A cyber security prospective
• An insider threat is defined as “the misuse or
destruction of sensitive or confidential
information, as well as IT equipment that
houses this data by employees, contractors and
other ‘trusted’ individuals.
