ACTIVITY 1

ECONOMIC GLOBALIZATION: UNITY OR DIVISION?

Instructions:
1. Based on your readings and your further researches, analyze whether economic globalization is
something that unites or further divides the world.
2. Using your drawing, articulate a position on global economic integration.
3. Write a short explanation of your stand.

GLOBAL ECONOMIC INTEGRATION HAS DONE MORE HARM THAN GOOD

One reason I believe global economic integration will bring more harm than good are due
to environmental concerns. Economic integration will undoubtedly generate hazardous waste by
continuously importing and exporting items without restrictions; also, there is a health risk
involved that could one day result in a health crisis if no assessments of imports and exports are
made. Certain industries may overexploit species, bringing them dangerously near to extinction.
Many people would also lose their jobs as economic integration focuses on efficiency as several
industries compete for it. As a result, people's career opportunities would be constrained,
resulting in widespread unemployment. Numerous factors of global economic integration have
also resulted in higher inflation rates in specific countries that import more products than they
export; as a result, products in their own country are more expensive due to high production
costs and labor. Security is another important concern of mine. Through migration, global
economic integration or free trade may generate chances for illegal products as well as terrorists
entering the country through migration. With that said, it is true that global economic integration
would benefit some countries, but its negative impact will outweigh it.
