MAP Accelerator administrator guide

Here’s how MAP Accelerator works:

● See where students stand. After students take the MAP Growth assessment, scores are automatically imported into
MAP Accelerator, so educators get a clear picture of each student’s current level.

● Every student gets started at the right level for them. Each student gets a custom learning path based on their
MAP Growth scores. Educators can adjust a student’s placement in any instructional area at any time.

● Students work on their personalized learning path. Students are assigned practice exercises and instructional
materials just right for them, receive immediate feedback, and have access to scaffolded help.

● Get real-time data and reports on your school’s progress. Administrators can use progress reports to see the
impact of MAP Accelerator for classes and students, celebrate progress, and support educators.

MAP Accelerator administrator account setup

STEP 1: Activate your MAP Accelerator account

through your district email.

Designated administrators will receive an email
with the subject line "Action needed: Confirm your
MAP Accelerator administrator account."

Click the blue button in the email that says
“Confirm your account” to get started.

STEP 2: Create a new account or log in to an

existing account.

If you’ve created a Khan Academy account in the
past, then you can log in to your existing account.
By doing this, you’ll maintain your previous
account settings and add the administrator
reports.

If you’re new to Khan Academy, you can create a
new account.

STEP 3: View reports.

Once your account is created, you can view
reports directly.

For ongoing access to MAP Accelerator, you don’t
need to check your email. Simply follow the log-in

Glossary

Metric  Definition

This metric measures total time learning on MAP Accelerator.

Learning minutes include time spent on practice problems, quizzes,

tests, instructional videos, and instructional articles. They do not
include time spent navigating the website or time spent on
Learning minutes   non-learning pages like the student homepage. If a student is idle for
an extended period of time, learning minutes will no longer
accumulate.

Recommended usage of MAP Accelerator is at least 30 minutes of

learning per week.

This metric counts the number of skills that moved up a mastery level
Skills leveled up  within an instructional area. The baseline goal is for students to level
up on two or more skills each week.

This metric averages the progress among students during a

selected time period.
Average instructional
area progress  Students have four instructional areas on MAP Accelerator at all
times with a maximum of 100% progress each, so it is possible for
the average to exceed 100%.

This metric counts the number of skills with activity that stayed at
Skills without progress  the same mastery level or moved down a mastery level. Skills with no
activity will not be counted here.

This metric measures the percentage of mastery points earned in

Progress this period
an instructional area during a selected time period.

This metric measures the percentage of mastery points earned in

Progress to date
an instructional area since the start of usage.

Implementation recommendations

Focus on motivation and progress.

How can you engage and empower your school? Here are tips from fellow school
leaders:
● Celebrate students and classes that are making progress toward their goals.
For example, read out the names of top users on the morning
announcements, provide certificates to students who meet their progress
and usage goals, or create a MAP Accelerator bulletin board in the hallway
that displays pictures of especially hard-working students.

● Encourage educators to share how they use MAP Accelerator with their
peers during department meetings. Observe classrooms during use and share
best practices.

● Encourage parents to learn more about MAP Accelerator. Parents can start by asking their child, “How are things
going on MAP Accelerator?” Students can log in to MAP Accelerator on a device at home so parents can view and
celebrate their progress.

Schedule time for MAP Accelerator.

Set up a weekly or daily cadence for MAP Accelerator usage on your campus. The
recommended usage is at least 30 minutes of student learning per week. Teachers
may find it helpful to set aside 45-60 minutes of class time to ensure all students
meet the threshold of 30 minutes of learning time.

Some schedules that schools have implemented:
● MAP Accelerator Mondays: On a specific day during the week, students
work on MAP Accelerator for part of the period. The day can be consistent
across the school or can vary by grade level.

● Lesson launch: Students start their day with 15 to 20 minutes of MAP

Accelerator. Teachers can focus on the instructional area in MAP
Accelerator most closely aligned to their class’s lesson of the day. For
example, if educators are teaching about area and perimeter of shapes,
students can work on their MAP Accelerator placement for geometry.

● Station rotation: Students work on engaging activities that are mathematically purposeful. Classrooms can be split
into two to four groups with one station being MAP Accelerator for personalized skill practice.
