I. OBJECTIVES
Content Standard: The learners recognize the communicative competence requires
understanding of speech context, speech style, speech act, and communicative strategy.
Performance Standard: The learners demonstrate effective use of communicative strategy in
a variety of speech situations engaged in by people in various situations.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of the lesson the students are expected to:
1. define speech style.
2. enumerate and differentiate the types of speech style.
3. present speech style in various activities.

SPEECH STYLE
It refers to the distinctive way of communication.
It means the form of language that the speaker uses
which characterized by the degree of formality.

Used generally in very formal setting.
Most formal communicative style for respectful
situation
Does not require any feedback from the audience
Usually uses long sentences with good grammar and
vocabulary
The use of language is fixed and relatively static
Examples: a presidential speech, an anthem, and a
school creed.

Application Directions: The students will be divided into five (5) groups
each group will be asked to perform an activity about types of
speech style. The following activities are listed below.
1. Lights Camera Action: The students will be asked to
perform a short skit that shows intimacy of the
students towards their parents/guardian. (Intimate
Style)
2. Sing It. The students will be asked to create and
perform a jingle about the LGBTQ. (Casual Style)
3. Ipaglaban Mo. The students will be asked to create an
advocacy about Depression. (Consultative Style)
4. Spill the Tea. The students will be asked to create an
announcement about the achievement of the school.
(Formal Style)
5. Time Freeze: The students will be asked to create a
tableau about Marriage Ceremonies. (Frozen Style)
