PRACTICE PAPER 04

Time Allowed: 2 hrs Max. Marks: 50

SECTION – A (1 mark)

1. What are the points on x-axis whose perpendicular distance from the line 4x + 3y = 12 is 4 ?

2. Find the coordinates of a point, whose coordinates with respect to origin (1, 4) are (6, –3).

3. What is the eccentricity of hyperbola whose vertices and foci are (± 2, 0) and (± 3, 0) respectively ?

4. What is the length of the latus rectum of the ellipse 16x2 + y2 = 16 ?

5. Find coordinates of a point on the parabola y2 = 18x whose ordinate is three times the abscissa.

6. Find the ratio, in which the line joining the points P (4, 8, 10) and Q (6, 10, – 8) is divided by XY-
plane.

7. Find the point on x-axis which is equidistant from (1, 5, 7) and (5, 1, – 4).

8. Find the distance of the point (1, –2, 4) from x, y and z-axis respectively.

9. What is the probability that a letter chosen at random from word ‘EQUATIONS’ is a consonant ?

10. A bag contains 9 discs of which 4 are red, 3 are blue and 2 are yellow. The discs are similar in shape
and size. A disc is drawn at random from the bag. Calculate the probability that it will be red

SECTION – B (2 marks)

11. Find the distance of the line 4x – y = 0 from the point P (4, 1) measured along the line making an
angle of 135° with the positive x-axis.

12. Find the centre and radius of the circle 2x2 + 2y2 – x = 0.

13. If a parabolic reflector is 20 cm in diameter and 5 cm deep, find the focus.

14. Three consecutive vertices of a parallelogram ABCD are A (3, –1, 2), B (1, 2, –4) and C(–1, 1, 2).
Find the fourth vertex.

15. A point R with x-coordinate 4 lies on the line segment joining the points P(2, –3, 4) and Q (8, 0, 10).
Find the coordinates of the point R.

16. Two unbiased dice are thrown. Find the probability that neither a doublet nor a total of 10 will appear.

5 are equal is a straight line.

18. A man running a race-course notes that the sum of the distances from the two flag posts from him is
always 10 m and the distance between the flag posts is 8 m. Find the equation of the path traced by the
man.

19. Find the equation of the set of points P such that PA2 + PB2 = 2k2, where A and B are the points (3, 4,
5) and (– 1, 3, – 7) respectively.

20. A committee of two persons is selected from two men and two women. What is the probability that the
committee will have (a) no man? (b) one man? (c) two men?

SECTION – D (6 marks)

21. Find the probability that when a hand of 7 cards is drawn from a well shuffled deck of 52 cards, it
contains (i) all kings (ii) 3 kings (iii) at least 3 kings.

22. Find the coordinates of the orthocentre of the triangle with vertices. (1, 2), (2, 3) and (4, 3).
