CONCEPT NOTES:
A concept paper Concept papers are summaries of projects or issues that
reflect the interests, experience and expertise of the writer or
organization.Generally it serves the purpose of providing in-depth discussion of
a topic that the writer has a strong position on, usually with the intent of
obtaining funding for that project from donors.It usually ranges from 500 to
2000 words and is usually divided into parts. The parts of a concept paper may
also vary depending on the nature of the project/activity. Below are two outlines
of concept paper based on context.

CONCEPT PAPER FOR A PROJECT:

Use the following structure when you want to propose a tangible project in your
discipline.

1. Cover Page - It states the name of the proponents and their affiliations, addresses
and contact numbers and email addresses of the proponents, the
head of the agency and his/her contact information and the date of
submission.
2. Introduction – It states the information about the funding agency to show that you
understand its mission, the mission of the agency that the proponents represent and
align it to the funding agency’s mission, the year the proponent’s agency was
established its major its major accomplishments and other details that demonstrates
its capability to undertake the proposed project; presents and describes other partner
agencies and why they are qualified as such; and provides reasons why the funding
agency should support the project.
3. Rationale or Background – It states the gap in knowledge to be addressed by the
project, the problems to be solved and the project’s significance
4. Project Description – It states the goals and objectives of the projects; presents the
methodology (sometimes termed as Action Plan,Project Activities, Approach);the
timeline expressed in months and year; the benefits or anticipated outcomes; and the
success of outcomes will be evaluated
5. Project Needs and Cost – In this part the author will outline the main budget,
include the term description and amount; explain or justify how the budget will be
used; and list the personnel or equipment needed for the project.
