When We Learn A Language, There Are


Four Skills That We Need For Complete
Communication :

 Skill #1: Listening


 Skill #2: Speaking
 Skill #3: Reading
 Skill #4: Writing

Listening Skills

1) Listening skills are skills that contribute to


your ability to accurately receive information
when communicating with others.

2) These skills are an important part of


effective communication in the workplace.

3) Developing good listening habits can help


to ensure you understand the information
correctly.

Process of listening :

(a) Hearing :
 It is sound waves simulating the sensory

receptors of ears.
 It is a physical response.

(b) Understanding:
 For successful interpersonal communication,

the listener must understand the intended


meaning and context assumed by the sender.

(C) Remembering:
 Remembering or memorizing is an import

part of the process of listening.


 It means the individual who is receiving the

message has received the message,


interpreted

(d) Evaluating:
 The listener should start evaluating message

only after listening to the message, not at the


beginning of the message.

(e) Responding:
 This step allows the speaker to determine if a

message has been received or not.

Speaking Skills

1) Speaking skills are the skills that give us


the ability to communicate with others
effectively.

2) These skills allow the speaker , to


convey his message in a passionate ,
thoughtful and convincing manner.

3) Speaking skills also help us to assure


that one wont be misunderstood by those
who are listening.

4) Language input comes from teacher talk,


listening, reading passages and language
heard or read outside the class.

5) Speaking is an interactive process where


information is shared and if necessary acted
upon by the listener. So its important to

develop both speaking and listening skills in
order to communicate effectively.

Reading Skills

1) Reading it is most difficult and exciting


skill to introduce.

2) It is not a simple skill as it involves a


combination of many skills and cognitive
abilities.

3) Reading is the most challenging skill to


be introduced to children.

4) In a nutshell, we say that reading is a


process of finding written words.

Here are some of the most common types of


reading

 Extensive Reading
 Intensive Reading
 Scanning
 Critical Reading
 Skimming

Writing Skills

1) We mainly write to communicate with


someone when often he is not present in
front of us.

2) We do a lot of writing simply to preserve


something i.e., a piece of information, an
idea, or a memory.

3) A teacher introduces young children to


how to write as, by the time they start
schooling for the first time, they are already
capable of talking with confidence with a
variety of people on various topics.

4) Writing skills dont just include the
physical act of writing. Skills like research,
planning and outlining, editing, revising,
spelling and grammar, and organization are
critical components of the writing process.
