Major Crops OF Pakistan

Major Crops of Pakistan are divided into 2 main seasons :

Rabi Crops: These are the crops


sown in Winter.

Kharif Crops: The crops which are


grown in rainy season are called
Kharif Crops.

Major Crops of Pakistan are descried below:


1. Rice :
 Rice is an important kharif crop.

 Rich, Soft soil is well suited for this Crop

 Abundant rain is favorable for rice crop

 Best in Hot Humid Climate.

2. Wheat :
 Wheat is the most important Rabi Crop.
 2/3 of this crop is grown in canal irrigated
area.

 Summer rains are sure and abundant.

 Grown mostly in Punjab.

3. Maize:
 Used for food and animal fodder .
 Important crop of Kharif

 Most of maize is grown in Peshawar and


Mardan in KPK.

4. Cotton:
 5% of the worlds cotton is produces in
Pakistan
 It is an important Cash Crop .

 Also Provides raw material for textiles.

 Best grown in Hot and Dry Weather.

5. Sugarcane:
 It isan important Kharif Crop .

 Grown in Dry and cold weather.


 Found in areas with good irrigation
system.

 Most of Sugarcane is grown in


Peshawar and Mardan in KPK.
