Remove the crankshaft pulley
Use a hoist to support the engine
Remove the right-hand engine support

Remove the timing belt upper cover


Remove the high-pressure pump position sensor

Removal
Raise the vehicle
Disconnect the battery
Remove the right front wheel
Remove the right wheel arch liner
Remove the engine lower cover
Remove the ancillary drive belt

Remove the timing belt lower cover


Remove the engine support bracket

Removal
Raise the vehicle
Disconnect the battery
Remove the right front wheel
Remove the pendulum support
Remove the right wheel arch liner
Remove the TDC sensor
Remove the engine lower cover
Remove the ancillary drive belt

Timing belt: removal/installation


General

Temporarily fit the crankshaft pulley bolt and spacer


Turn the crankshaft clockwise to align the timing marks
Align the camshaft timing marks

Removal
Raise the vehicle
Disconnect the battery
Fit the crankshaft TDC locking pin (Mot.1489)
Remove the right front wheel
Remove the right wheel arch liner
Remove the engine lower cover
Remove the ancillary drive belt

General

Turn the crankshaft slowly to TDC and lock it

Removal
Fit the camshaft locking pin (Mot.1430)
Raise the vehicle
Disconnect the battery
Remove the right front wheel
Remove the right wheel arch liner
Remove the engine lower cover
Remove the ancillary drive belt

Remove the crankshaft locking pin (Mot. 1489)


Loosen the tensioner pulley bolt
Remove the timing belt
Remove the tensioner pulley

Installation
Fit the tensioner pulley
Note: The lug in the base plate must engage in the hole in the cylinder head

Removal
Raise the vehicle
Disconnect the battery
Remove the right front wheel
Remove the right wheel arch liner
Remove
Check thethe engine pump

General

Remove 1 bolt of the camshaft gearwheel (A)


Loosen the camshaft gearwheel bolts by 1 turn (B)

Removal
Temporarily fit the crankshaft pulley bolt and spacer
Raise the vehicle
Fit the crankshaft
Disconnect locking pin
the battery (Mot. 1489)
Turn the the
Remove crankshaft slowly
right front to TDC and lock it

Remove the right wheel arch liner
Remove the engine lower cover
Remove the ancillary drive belt

General

Note: The crankshaft timing mark must be facing upwards

Removal
Fit the timing belt
Raise the vehicle
Align the timing marks on the timing belt with those on the camshaft and injection pump gearwheels
Disconnect the battery
Count the number of teeth spaces between the marks on the camshaft and high-pressure pump
Remove the right front wheel

Remove the ancillary drive belt

Timing belt: removal/installation


General

Count the number of teeth spaces between the marks on the crankshaft and high-pressure pump
gearwheels
The number of teeth spaces should be (X) (X = 51)
Pre-tension the timing belt
Turn the tensioner anti-clockwise until the pointer is positioned as shown
Use an Allen key (6 mm)

Removal
Raise the vehicle
Disconnect the battery
Remove the right front wheel
Remove the right wheel arch liner
Tighten the tensioner pulley mounting bolt (27 Nm)
Remove the engine lower cover
Check that the camshaft gearwheels are not at the end of the slots
Remove the ancillary drive belt

Timing belt: removal/installation


Repeat
Generalthe procedure if required
Tighten the camshaft gearwheel bolts (14 Nm)
Remove the camshaft locking pin (Mot. 1430)
Remove the crankshaft locking pin (Mot. 1489)
Temporarily fit the crankshaft pulley bolt and spacer
Rotate the crankshaft clockwise by 2 turns
Fit the crankshaft locking pin (Mot. 1489)
Check that the camshaft locking pin can be fitted (Mot. 1430)
Note: Correct the position of the camshaft gearwheel if the special tool does not fit
Check the timing marks
Remove the crankshaft locking pin (Mot. 1489)
Remove the camshaft locking pin (Mot. 1430)
Loosen the tensioner pulley, keeping it steady with a hexagonal wrench
Turn the tensioner clockwise to align both marks

Removal
Raise the vehicle
Disconnect
Tighten thethe batterypulley mounting bolt (27 Nm)
tensioner
Remove thecrankshaft
Rotate the right frontclockwise
wheel by 2 turns
Remove the right wheel
Fit the crankshaft lockingarch
pin liner (Mot. 1489)
Remove the engine
Fit the camshaft lower
locking pincover
(Mot. 1430)
Remove the ancillary drive belt

Note: Repeat the procedure if the special tools do not fit properly
General
Remove the crankshaft locking pin (Mot. 1489)
Remove the camshaft locking pin (Mot. 1430)
Refit the access plug (25 Nm)
Note: Apply sealant before fitting

Refit the pendulum support


Refit the engine support bracket (25 Nm)

Removal
Raise the vehicle
Disconnect the battery
Remove the right front wheel
Remove the right wheel arch liner
Remove
Refit the the engine
timing lower cover
belt lower cover
Remove the ancillary drive belt

Fit the high-pressure pump position sensor
General

Refit the timing belt upper cover


Refit the right-hand engine support (62 Nm)

Removal
Raise the vehicle
Disconnect the battery
Remove the right front wheel
Remove the right wheel arch liner
Remove the engine lower cover
Remove the ancillary drive belt

Fit the crankshaft pulley
General
Note: Use a new bolt
Stage 1: (120 Nm)
Stage 2: (95° ± 15°)
Fit the ancillary drive belt
Refit the engine lower cover
Refit the right wheel arch liner
Refit the front right wheel
Reconnect the battery

Torque settings
Tensioner pulley: (27 Nm)
Crankshaft pulley:
Stage 1: (120 Nm)
Stage 2: (95° ± 15°)
TDC plug: (25 Nm)
Engine support: (62 Nm)

Removal
Raise the vehicle
Disconnect the battery
Remove the right front wheel
Remove the right wheel arch liner
Removesupport
Engine the engine
bracket:
lower cover
(25 Nm)
Remove the ancillary drive belt
