LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE IV

5Es APPROACH

I . Objectives:
-At the end of 50-minute discussion, the pupils are able to;
1. Describe the functions the muscular system
2.Illustrates how muscles work

II . Learning Content:
How Muscles Work

Science Ideas:
Voluntary muscles are connected to the bones. Tendons connect muscles to the bones.
Muscles work in pairs.
When a muscle relaxes, the other contracts.
The contraction and relaxation of the muscles produce movement.

Science Process Skills:

Observing, inferring, demonstrating

Materials: pictures, flip chart, Task cards

Value: Taking care of the muscles

III. Procedures:
A. ENGAGE:
1. Review: Identifying the kind of muscles.

B. EXPLORE:
1. Pre-viewing Activity:
Have pupils bend their arms and feel the tough tissue inside.
Ask: What do you call this tough tissue?

2. Video Viewing
a. Setting of Standards:
What are the things we have to keep in mind when watching a video?
-Do not make unnecessary noise.
-Watch the video quietly and take important notes.
-Ask questions after watching and not while watching the video.

Let the pupils view the video presentation.

C. EXPLAIN:
1. Discussions/Analysis:
What is the video all about?
Why can we move our bodies?
How are muscles in our body arranged?
What do you call the pair of muscles in our arms?
What happens when a muscle contract?
What is the relationship between muscles and bones?
What happens when our muscles and bones work together?

Can you give some examples of activities that show how muscles and bones coordinate
and work to create movement? (jumping, running, bending, smiling…etc..)

2. Generalization:
(Guide pupils to state the concepts.)
How do muscles work?
(Muscles work in pairs. When a muscle relaxes, the other contracts.
The contraction and relaxation of the muscles produce movement.)
