• I am going to get a new job. (= I intend to get a job.)

• I am getting a new job. (= It is already decided / arranged. Here the


focus is on the arrangement.)

• What are you doing this evening? (A question about arrangements)

• Are you going to do anything about that letter you received? (A


question about the intentions of the listener)
BE GOING TO & PRESENT CONTINUOUS
• Be going to refers to future intentions that have been decided but
have not been fully planned.
We are going to get married. (we have the intention but not fully planned)

• The present continuous tense refers to fixed future events and


emphasizes that plans or arrangements have already been made:
We are getting married next month.
(The wedding has already been arranged.)
