Form 2, June 2018 Past paper.

Annaleah Ali 3H:

1(a). A motif is a design or image that is repeated to form a pattern.

(b). The motif used in figure one appears to be a rabbit.

(c). The techniques that could have been used are: stencilling and/or masking, stencilling is the
process in which a motif is cut out in perhaps plastic or acetate, for example, and printed repeatedly
to form a pattern and masking is where, using tape, a motif is cut out and place on the designated
places to create the pattern, and painted or even coloured over to form a motif and repeated to
form a pattern.

(d). These images could be used in a child’s nursery, as the wallpaper, for example, because they
both display images of cartoon animals which are usually a reminder of toys, perhaps and that suits
young children the most.

2. I think figure 4 was the student’s first attempt, because figure 3 is much more artistically
developed and detailed, it contains features, for example, shading, which requires practice to get
right and the facial features on the portrait are drawn much better because they look more realistic,
which again, requires practice to master.

3(a). This drawing is a still life drawing.

(b). Two errors that the student has made are: having minimal light source in the drawing and
adding shading in certain areas too dark without blending it properly.

(c). The student needs to develop the habit of blending her shading with a small brush perhaps and
adding a horizon line to her piece to make it more complete and cohesive in order to improve her
drawings in the future.
