    CALENDAR PROPOSAL MINISTRY OF EDUCATION

    GHANA EDUCATION SERVICE

    No Double Track for grade level, however, only two year group of the three
    cohorts of students are in school at any period in time for the 2023.
    The proposed calendar ensures that each year group meets or exceeds the
    2023 SHTS total minimum contact hours of 3,402 hours over the course of the three years.

    2023 TRANSITIONAL CALENDAR

    WASSCE DATE: AUGUST/SEPTEMBER - 2023

    NOTES ON THE TRANSITIONAL CALENDAR

    Due to the start of the calendar in January 2023, SHS 3 cannot enjoy a prolonged
    break. This is to allow SHS 1 and SHS 2 to be in school as well.
    This means that the calendar will have to be fine-tune so that SHS 3 students can
    attend class continuously from January 2023 through the end of September 2023,
    when the WASSCE ends.
    In the transitional option, two (2) of the three (3) year groups must be in school at a
    given time.
    In addition, the Colleges of Education have received an increase in their schools’
    enrolment as a result of the Free Senior High School programme which required short
    term solution.
    Finally, the 2023 calendar ensures that teachers get a break.
