Eleanor Everet once said that, “For safety is not a gadget but a state of mind.

” This
recite clearly showcases that how important safety is. Road safety is one of the hotly
debated issues facing us today. No matter reading newspaper or using media social like
Facebook or Instagram, we can always read the news about road accidents and this
indicates that there are many people involved in road accidents. Some are killed while some
are died due to their negligence. Many more are injured or maimed. Hence, it is important
for us to be a sane road user and learn to use the roads properly to ensure ourselves and
others safety. An insane person would like to be involved in an accident.
Nowadays, the roads are become hectic especially during the rush hour. The most
common is traffic in city like Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru start building up at dawn. As the
roads are remarkably busy, we should be on high alert when crossing one. There are some
advantageous tips to raise pedestrians’ awareness for their own safety. For instance, they
are suggested to use a pedestrian crossing or an overhead bridge whenever one is available
as they can avoid from the busy road. Crossing a road by dashing across it is not be allowed
because it will increase the risk of involving in a road accident. You are just inviting trouble if
you do that as you will in danger at any time. If there are crossings, look carefully right, left,
and right again before crossing. Pedestrians also warned to step onto the street after there
are no vehicle and it is safe to do so.

Secondly, there are different ways for student to attend to school. Some of them are
driven to school while some take the bus to school. Some school bus safety tips should be
cautioned by students. They have to wait until the bus to stop completely before getting on
or off the bus. I can still vividly remember that I am trying to get on a moving bus once. It
dragged me a short distance and nearly ran over me. I was lucky to escape with only some
scratches on my legs. Moreover, we must not fool around while in the bus. It is safer for
students to fasten seat belt if the bus equipped with it. A sudden lurch can send us knocking
our heads against something hard and this will bring danger to our brain or spinal cord. Seat
belt helps to spread the force of a crash over a wide area of our body and this will avoid
passengers from severe injury.
Apart from that, cycling on road can be dangerous too. Cycling on the road needs
more concentration and cyclists require to have a high level of awareness of driver’s turning
intentions. Never cycle too far out to the middle of the road as this can help cyclists to avoid
poor road surfaces like potholes at the edge of the road. To minimum the risk of road
accidents, we must know and obey all traffic rules. Also, we must make sure our bicycles are
in good condition with working brakes and lights.
In a nutshell, these are some precautious that must be taken by every road user to
avoid accidents. However, there is no guarantee that we will never be involved in one. The
important thing is always to stay alert while using the roads so that we can clearly know
what is happening around us. In that way we can take necessary action to avoid danger
whenever we see one. Road safety is very much up to how we use the roads. If we use them
carefully, we may be able to use them for a long period. If not, we may never be able to use
them again.
