INTRODUCTION
Passive voice
Definition
Passive voice is the opposite of active voice or sentence. In passive sentences the focus of the sentence
is the 'recieving' object of an action. Passive voice merupakan suatu bentuk kalimat dimana subjek
kalimat menerima aksi, bukan melakukan aksi.
Structure Text
The passive forms are made up of
the verb be with a past participle
Active Sentence Passive Sentence
'The gardener grows flowers.' ( tukang kebun ‘Flowers are grown by the gardener.' (Bunga-
menanam bunga-bunga) bunga ditanam oleh tukang kebun)
'My grandfather planted that tree.' ( kakek ‘That tree was planted by my grand father’ (pohon
menanam\menumbuhkan pohon itu) itu ditumbuhkan/ ditanam oleh kakek)

 Sometime the subjects do not need to be mentioned in sentence .

Functions

 To state the objects’ identities.


example : it is called an Ulos
 To state the materials that make the objects
Example : Satay or ‘sate’ is made of chicken, beef, or lamb

 To state the functions of the objects


example : It is used to play not only traditional but also modern music

 To state what happen/happened to the objects


It is worn by men and women in ceremonial events like weddings and funerals.
Generally, the social function of passive voice to describe something to
other people without mentioning subjcet of the verb.
