Introduction

An electrical conduit is a raceway or piping system that is used to route electrical wires in a building. It
also serves as a protection for wires and cables from impact, moisture, vapor, and other damages
caused by abuse or accident.

The following are some advantages of using electrical conduits:

 Allow easy pulling of cables to inaccessible areas

 Allow simpler and safer wiring changes
 Can be manufactured as waterproof or submersible
 Can be sealed to protect against fire and explosion hazards

The Philippine Electrical Code (PEC) and National Electrical Code (NEC) regulate the specifications of
the electrical conduits.

There are different types of electrical conduits based on material and application. This lesson further
discusses the different types of non-metallic and metallic electrical conduits, as well as the procedures
in installing and inspecting them.
