Sleeping Many parents believe that
soft bedding will keep their
infant safe and comfortable.
This is also why co-sleeping
is initiated. They do not
make their infant sleep in a
cold, hard crib, when they
could sleep in a warm,
comfortable bed with them.
This is their perspective of
infants sleeping based on their
beliefs.
Feeding Breastfeeding is not
commonly done within this
culture. This may be due to
lack of education on the
benefits of it. The lack of
peer and family support is
also a factor in breastfeeding.
Thus, there’s a small
percentage for initiation and
continuation for
breastfeeding. Because of
this, infants are often
supplemented with formula.
Who are primary caretakers The primary caretakers in
African American culture are
typically female. Majority of
the time it is young mothers.
Games and toys Boys usually get building
blocks, legos, and cars. Girls
usually get kitchen sets, baby
dolls with strollers, etc. In the
early stages, books, boards
