FISCAL MANAGEMENT & CONTROL

(w/ Entrepreneurship- Fieldtrip)

By: Shane Jay G. Fabugais

For the completion of our subject; Fiscal Management and Control, a One-day Fieldtrip was held
last September 7, 2019 with the selected business fields of chosen places in Siquijor. This program
aimed to empower the community and to bring social change in terms of entrepreneurship. This service,
attend to the culture of being responsive to the needs of the people as well as to answer the challenge for
national development.

At around 8:30 a.m., we first arrived at Renie’s Peanut Processing at Candanay Sur, Siquijor
Siquijor. It is a great honor to have finally met Mr. Renato A. Magsayo, business owner, who talked
about the recent development of his business, ran by his family. We were then provided with peanut
crunches, banana chips, camote chips and available food products such as peanut butter, sweet coated
nuts and piñato. We also had a chance to visit the production area where the products are made and
packed.

Our next stop is at Elnard Integrated Farm – Farm Stay & Farm School at Candura, San Juan,
Siquijor. A fun-filled adventure it was to have wandered in the different parts of the farm, having
witnessed the well-sustained organic farm products which give healthy life-giving food to the
community. The aromatic organic mint tea is likewise health beneficial giving its delicious taste. How
lucky are we to have experienced those things.

We then proceeded at Cambugahay Falls, interviewed the vendors, stopped at Lazi for lunch and
proceeded to Aquamare located at Sandugan, Larena, Siquijor. We captured each moment and taste the
cheesy pizzas and brain-freezing sweet shakes. After having such a great time, we finally had our last
stop at Pasalubong Center Larena. We’ve seen the varied products made by Siquijodnon locals displayed
at their racks.
I find a sense of fulfilment after the trip since we were able to experience and visit those individuals
who have contributed much in our economy in terms of business. We have been exposed to a field with
high needs for basic services, which in turn will influence the entire community towards its holistic and
sustainable developments.

After having attended the trip with the served community, I feel happy since we were able to reach
our goal, applied the basic concept and skills, and have developed competence in the field of
specialization along economic, socio-economic and environmental aspects. It only not broadened my
sense of responsibility but also widened my vision to empower the community by using the gift God has
given me being- a teacher.

This activity brought me to a reality that people struggle not just demographically, but also
financially. There are a lot of ways on how to recover only if we’re eager enough to help ourselves and
anchor it with dedication and perseverance. Being involved with those simple acts, I know that we have
taken those small steps that actually bring hope in Siquijor and by that, I am still yearning for their
growth that will give a huge impact in our island, economically. Let it be known to the world that the tiny
steps we started are actually the determiners of our future that; we are growing, we are developing. I am
proud to have been a part of such successful event. Indeed, we are the catalysts of change!
