IV. Procedures

Teacher’s Activities Students’ Activities

A. Preparatory Activities
1. Warm-up Drills
a. Prayer
b. Checking of Attendance
c. Classroom Management
d. Review
Yesterday we have already done with the
preliminary activities which is very necessary to
get your BMI. What BMI stands for?

Yes! Very Good!

Why is it important to get your BMI? (Students will answer the Teacher according to
what they have discussed last meeting)
You’re right!
And we defined Physical Activity and
Exercise. Again, what is Physical Activity and
give some examples.
Correct!
How about exercise and its examples?
Very Good!
Therefore, I conclude that you learned a lot
from our previous topic.
2. Motivation
I will ask everyone to please stand up for
we are going to have a short warm-up
exercises.
(Students will stand up and follow the warm-up
Do you feel good? exercises which is being played on TV)
Are you now ready to know what could be
our next topic?

B. Developmental Activities
1. Presentation
I have here some pictures and please clap
your hands if you know or played this games.
Ok?

(Students will response through clapping)

(Every group will make a concept map of the

common injuries involved in recreation.)

(Students will answer the question)

These pictures are the sports you have already

experienced in your childhood days and even
now when you want to kill some time and want
to enjoy because of the hassle requirements in
school. Am I right?

Without knowing that these sports you

have been playing are examples of active
recreations or recreational activities. And now,
we going to identify what is an active
recreation, physical activity and the common
injuries involved in recreation.
(The Teacher will play short video of
recreations)
2. Lesson Proper
a. Activity
(The Teacher will group the students into two)

You are going to make your concept map of

the common injuries involved in recreation.
Give some injuries you have experienced while
playing some recreational activities.

(Students will answer the questions)

Common
Injuries
involved in
Recreational
Activities

b. Analysis
Since then you are exposed to some sports
outside and inside of your house and played it
with your childhood friends. For you what is
recreation?

Yes! Very Good!

It is an activity done for enjoyment when you
are not working. It is also called leisure time for
amusement, pleasure and to have fun.

Recreation is classified into two, and these

are active and passive recreations. What is an
active recreation?
Yes! These are activities which requires
physical efforts. Can you give some examples of
active recreations?
Very Good!
What about the passive recreations?
Yes! It is the activities without exerting much
of your prowess.
What are some examples of passive
recreations?
Very Good!
In your activity you have listed some injuries
you have experienced when you played some
recreational activities. Now, we are going to
identify what are those common injuries and
we are going to check your work.
The first common injury is sprain.
When can you say that you have been
sprained?
Sprain is a stretch or tear of a ligament.
By the way class what is ligament? (Students will watch the video)
Impressive! It is the connective tissues that
joins the end of the bone with another. And
usually serves to hold structures together and
keep them stable.
(The Teacher will play a video of how sprain
happens- Science Integration)

Going back to sprain, how can you get a sprain

or what causes sprain? (Students will answer the questions)

Very Good! Sprain is caused by trauma such

as fall or a blow to the body that knocks a joint
out of position, and in the worst case, raptures
the supporting ligaments.
What are the parts of the body which are
most vulnerable of sprain?
Yes! Impressive! Those part of the body
where have ligaments like ankles, knees and
wrists.

Yes! Very Good!

The signs of sprain are bruising, inflammation,
swelling and inability to move a limb or joint.
Next is strain. What causes strain?
Very Good!
It results from overstretching or over
contraction of a muscle or a tendon. What is a
tendon? How is it different from the ligament?

Impressive! It is a cord of tissue connecting

to bone.
What are the signs of strain?

Yes! Correct!
Next is knee injuries. What are the common
knee injuries?

Impressive! Bone bruises, damage to the

cartilage or ligaments. What is a cartilage?

Consistent!
Next is fractures. What causes fractures?
Correct!
It is break in the bone that can occur from
either a quick, one-time injury to the bone or
from repeated stress to the bone over time.
Its symptoms are tenderness and swelling often
accompany the pain.

And lastly, dislocations. This happens when

two bones that come together to form a joint (Student will perform their chosen first ad
become separated, the joint is described as procedures)
being dislocated.

What results dislocations?

When in excessive stretching or falling.

How can you deal with these injuries?

If you experience these injuries how can you
relieve its pain?

Yes! You need to apply first aid for these

injuries but during recreational activities you
have to remember the acronyms in applying
first aid. These are PRICED and HARM.
(The Teacher will flash the PRICED and HARM
procedures on the slides)

And if you have friends who have injuries like

these you can give them an immediate
assistance to lessen their pains.
(The Teacher will show the first aid procedures
for strains, sprains and fractures)

c. Abstraction
Again, how is active recreation helps you in
any ways?
Why do you still want to have leisure time?

What are those active recreations that causes

injuries?

What are those common injuries you have

experienced?
Can you enumerate those injuries?
How can you give an immediate assistance to
those who have suffering from injuries?
How can you perform first aid to the common
injuries?
What are the acronyms to be remembered in
performing first-aid?
Why is it important to know the basic
procedures of first aid?
If you are in a situation where someone is
asking for assistance, are you willing to help
and extend your efforts to give first aid?

d. Application
With the same group, you are going to
perform first aid. Just select whether you want
the first aid procedures for sprains, strains or
fractures. You have 5 minutes to practice and
10 minutes for your actual presentation.

Here is the rubrics for scoring.

Good luck!

e. Assessment
Read the item carefully and encircle the
correct letter of answer.
1. This injury includes bone bruises or damage
to the cartilage or ligaments. This injury can
range from mild to severe. Less severe would
be tendonitis, patella femoral compression
syndrome, iliotibial band syndrome and
bursitis.
a. Fractures c. Sprain
b. Knee Injuries d. Strain
2. It is when two bones that come together to
form a joint become separated, the joint is
described as being dislocated.
a. Sprain c. Dislocations
b. Fractures d. Strains
3. It is a twist, pull or tear of a muscle or
tendon.
a. Fractures c. Sprain
b. Strain d. Dislocations
4. It is a stretch or tear of a ligament.
a. Fractures c. Sprain
b. Knee Injuries d. Strain
5. It is a break in the bone that can occur from
either a quick, one-time injury to the bone or
from separated stress to the bone over time.
a. Sprain c. Dislocations

V. Assignment

Do a short research about cheerleading and its essentials (Arms/hand and Legs/feet positions). Write
