What is the role of supply chain event management in large organization?

Answer
Companies can respond to unanticipated events on an exception basis with the help of supply
chain event management (SCEM) software. Here is a tool that promises to boost productivity,
balance supply and demand, and make better use of a company's resources. According to
Michael Bittner of AMR Research, SCEM is a "major differentiating area in service, as well as a
growth area, applying intelligent response principles to other application areas like as supplier
relationships, production processes, and logistics and fulfilment."

SCEM solutions give businesses the ability to monitor and track in real-time where products and
parts are located along the supply chain as well as how specific occurrences may affect the status
of related planned production projects. Additionally, SCEM technologies enable businesses to
watch, analyses, assess, and plan for potential conflicts in the transportation of components and
goods to prevent significant interruptions and delays, much like radar in a control tower. With
the help of this capacity, OEMs can better manage their supply chain logistics and exploit a
leaner value chain, which is essential for keeping adaptable and robust in the current global
supply network.

1. SCEM Function :-

The Role of Supply Chain Event Management Systems for Supply Chain Risk Management Late
delivery, breakdown of IT-systems or production machines, variations in demand, supply,
transportation are a few examples of risks that increase costs and reduce satisfaction of
customers of an enterprise. If the relevant enterprise is an actor in a supply chain, then such risks
do not only impact this enterprise but also those enterprises that are present in the upstream and
downstream of the supply chain. Through the globalization of the economy such risk
interdependencies along supply chains took on significance in the last years. In order to avoid
these risks, risk management that concentrates on the entire supply chain is essential. This risk
management is supported by various instruments among which Supply Chain Event
Management Systems (SCEM-systems) also can be counted. This study aims to explain to what
extent SCEM-systems support the risk management process in supply chains.
2. Impacts :-

Order management, production and sequencing of planned production programmes, production

network management, warehouse management, container and yard management, transportation
monitoring, and even customer relations are all impacted by an effective SCEM deployment.
SCEM systems may and should be utilised widely to create the highest level of transparency and
agility since they are a comprehensive solution that focuses on tracking events at each point
along the value chain, including changes to production, delays in transportation, and customer
requests.

Benefits of SCEM :-

Now that we've given you some unfavourable information about SCEM solutions, it's critical to
talk about the advantages of SCEM and how businesses can use this technology as a value
proposition for developing, maintaining, and expanding a genuinely lean supply chain.

Imagine that a facility's inventory problem causes a production delay that is discovered
somewhere along the supply chain. When the producer informs the customer of this potential
delay, the consumer actually requires the product sooner than anticipated. The manufacturer
reallocates production of this part to a new location that it knows can fulfil the order within the
designated production window in order to satisfy the customer's needs.

SCEM can provide businesses with the power, control, insight, and flexibility they need to
examine, assess, and combat production changes or alterations in order to prevent possible
breakdowns. However, there are other advantages that businesses may take advantage of using
SCEM systems, two of which are as follows:

 Decreased inventory - Redirecting resources to other, more urgent aspects of production

and supply is made possible by a decrease in needless inventory, which also results in a
decrease in storage costs and other related expenses. Additionally, this implies that
businesses can function on less budgets and schedules for improved responsiveness and
agility..
 More accurate planning - You'll be in a better position to plan your capacity more
accurately for demand from both current and potential customers if you have access to
up-to-date information on the status of your inventory, facility constraints, current
planned production, and delivery schedules. Planners and managers can develop more
precise planning strategies because SCEM works like a radar system and provides a
complete view of the supply stream.

3. SCEM as value :-

It's simple to understand how SCEM adds value in industries with a lot of variants, like
automotive production and supply, where businesses need more and better solutions to simplify
the complicated global supply chain of today and strengthen their own logistics and processes. In
the supply chain of the twenty-first century, control—the capacity to monitor, assess, and decide
on actions and data from orders through manufacturing to delivery—is the name of the game.

A holistic, one-of-a-kind visible perspective of the supply network from top to bottom that
SCEM offers businesses gives them that level of control, which is essential for staying
competitive and growth-oriented in a sector that is changing and expanding quickly.
