UNIT 5 – VERB PATTERNS.

WE USE GERUNDS/INFINITIVES:
A. AFTER CERTAIN VERBS, EG. LIKE, LOVE,
ENJOY, HATE, PREFER, STOP.
a. They prefer dancing to their
favourite songs.
B. AFTER PREPOSITIONS.
a. They cheer themselves up by
watching funny videos.
C. AS THE SUBJECT OR OBJECT OF A
SENTENCE.
a. Smiling can show people that
you’re friendly.

WE USE GERUNDS/INFINITIVES:
A. AFTER CERTAIN VERBS. EG, WANT,
DECIDE, HOPE, TRY, PRETEND, LEARN,
REMEMBER, PLAN.
a. You can’t hope to learn all the
words in a language.
B. AFTER CERTAIN ADJECTIVES, EG. EASY,
DIFFICULT, IMPORTANT, HAPPY, SAD,
LUCKY.
a. It is hard to be cheerful all day.
C. WHEN WE ARE EXPLAINING THE
PURPOSE OF AN ACTION.
a. They do sports every day to put
themselves in a good mood.
Stop to think = stop doing something and
start thinking about the problem.
Stop thinking = stop to think.

I like to run = you say when.


I like running = you enjoy something.
Verb + Infinitive (without To):

Este verb pattern  consta de dos verbos consecutivos, sin la


palabra "to" entre ellos. 
Verb + Preposition + Gerund:

Con este patrón, el primer verbo es seguido por una preposición y


después un verbo terminado en  "-ing".

Verb + Object + Verb:

Este patrón consiste en dos verbos consecutivos con un pronombre


de por medio, por ejemplo:

Este patrón se usa con verbos como make  / hacer y let  /dejar.


UNIT 6 – PRESENT PERFECT VS PAST SIMPLE.

We use the present perfect to talk about an


action at an unspecified time in the past or an
unfinished time period that has a result in the
present.

We use the past simple to talk abut an action


at a specified time in the past.

2. Haven’t seen
3. Didn’t watch / listened
4. Have you seen?
5. Hasn’t spoken
For / since = present perfect
Ago / last / on / in / at = past simple.

We use the following questions to talk
about:
What is he like? = C
What does he like? = A
What does he look like? = B
How is he? = D

A. Hobbies.
B. Appearance.
C. General description.
D. Health.
