REFLECTION

Our country, the Philippines is located in the Pacific Ocean where several
typhoons develop. This region is geographically called the “Typhoon Belt”. This natural
disturbance enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) with an average of 20
typhoons every year. Typhoon can be associated to climate change. This change refers
to long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns.

The talk show presented the testimony of some survivors of the calamity. It
testifies the bravery and resilience of Filipino people in times of crisis brought by the
disaster. We can monitor the activity of the typhoons, the strength of its wind per hour
and the area where it lands. However, the damage and casualties it brings to lives and
properties is dreadful. This catastrophic event exempts no gender, races and social
status, everybody is affected. This is how nature works and response to anthropogenic
activities.

As a student and responsible citizen it is our responsibility to protect our

environment and conserve our resources. In our own little way, we can make change for
the better. And disaster preparedness is very important, for resilient and strong country.
