Last meeting, we discussed the definition and elements of novel. What is the elements
of novel?

B. PRESENTATION
The teacher will start the lesson by showing a Powerpoint Presentation and a
Visual Aid.
CHARACTER
A character is a person, or sometimes an animal, who takes part in the action of a
short story or other literary work.
SETTING
Setting is the time and place that a story occurs.
THEME
Theme is the meaning behind events and characters’ actions in a story. The theme
is the central idea, message, or purpose in a short story. A theme can be expressed
as a general statement about people or life. It can be either directly or indirectly
stated by the author. Most likely indirectly.
CONFLICT
Conflict is any of the problems that a character encounters in a story.
The conflict is a struggle between two people or things in a short story.
The main character is on one side of the main conflict.
Conflicts can be:
1. External – conflict with others and with nature
2. Internal – conflict within themselves
PLOT
Plot is a pattern of events that develop from the interactions between characters.
A plot is a series of events and character actions that relate to the central conflict.
There are 5 elements of plot:
Exposition
Rising Action
Climax
Falling Action
Conclusion
C. APLLICATION
In your group, the teacher will play a type of short story titled "The Fox and the Crow" and
then they have to find the basic elements of the short story which is the character, setting,
theme, conflict, plot and also a resolution and write it on a clean paper.
D. GENERALIZATION
The students will answer the following questions.
1. Define the meaning of Short Story
2. Give me the 5 Elements of Short Story
3. Can a short story be a story even without a theme?
4. What will happen if a short story has a lot of conflict of happening?
E. EVALUATUON.
In a one-fourth sheet of paper, the students will answer the following question and give
the best and correct answer.
1. What is a brief work of fiction, usually written in prose and running 1,600 to 20,000
words in length?
2. What is a person, or sometimes an animal, who takes part in the action of a short story or
other literary work?
3. What is the time and place that a story occurs?
4. What is the meaning behind events and characters’ actions in a story?
5. What is any of the problems that a character encounters in a story?
6. What is a pattern of events that develop from the interactions between characters?
