YOU ARE BORN AGAIN

To understand why we have to be born-again, we need to understand what is

commonly known as the “Four Spiritual Laws”.

(Just as there are physical laws that govern the physical universe, so there are
spiritual laws, which govern your relationship with God.)

LAW #1 : God loves you and offers a wonderful plan for your life.
(Jn 3:16; Jn 10:10)

LAW #2 : Man is sinful and separated from god. Therefore, he cannot

Know and experience God’s love and plan for his life.
(Rom 3:23; Rom 6:23)

LAW #3 : Jesus Christ is God’s only provision for man’s sin. Through
Him you can know and experience God’s love and plan for
Your life.
(Rom 5:8; John 14:6)

LAW #4 : We must individually receive Jesus Christ as Savior and

Lord. Then we can know and experience God’s love and
Plan for our lives.
(John 1:12; Eph 2:8)

When we receive Jesus Christ into our lives, we experience a new birth in our spirit man.
This is the “born-again” experience, which all Christians have!

You can receive Jesus Christ right now by faith (believing and trusting God for it) through
prayer. Prayer is talking with God. The following is a suggested prayer.

“Lord Jesus, I need you. Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the
door of my life and receive You as my Savior and Lord. Thank you for forgiving my
sins and giving me eternal life. Make me the kind of person You want me to be.
Amen.”
My Faith Class Lesson 1

ASSURANCE OF SALVATION

MEMORY VERSE: JOHN 3:16

When a person believes in the Lord Jesus Christ and accepts Him as his personal Savior, he
becomes a child of God. He is said to be BORN AGAIN.

He has experienced the new birth or regeneration through the working of the Holy Spirit, which
must happen before a person can enter the Kingdom of God (John 3:3).

A. THE MEANING OF BORN AGAIN

1. You now have a new LIFE (2 Cor 5:17).

2. God puts His SPIRIT in You. You are now a DWELLING place of God (1 Cor 6:19-20).

3. You have a new NATURE (Col 3:9-10 / Ref. Eph 4:24).

4. You BELONG to the Kingdom of God (Col 1:13-14).

B. AS A NEW BELIEVER, YOU will RECEIVED:

1. ETERNAL LIFE

a. Whoever believes and responds to the Gospel, they will RECEIVE eternal life (1 John
5:11-13 / Ref. John 3:16, 36).

b. It means not only an unending life with God, but also a real FELLOWSHIP with Him.

c. Eternal life does not begin in the future up in Heaven. Eternal life begins NOW.

2. SONSHIP

a. When a person is born again, he becomes a CHILD of God. He belongs to the

FAMILY of God.
My Faith Class Lesson 1

b. Salvation marks a father and a son RELATIONSHIP which no other religion offers.

c. The Bible tells us that we have received the spirit of sonship by which we call our
God, “ABBA FATHER” (Rom 8:15 / Gal 4:6-7).

3. FORGIVENESS of sins.

a. Through faith in Jesus Christ and through GENUINE repentance, every believer
experiences real forgiveness.

b. On the cross Jesus took ALL the punishment for our sins, and His blood has provided
complete cleansing for us (Col 2:13-14).

God's Promises for us:

 You are JUSTIFIED and made righteous in Christ. (Rom 5:18, Heb 10:17).

 You are no longer a sinner ENSLAVED to sin but a saint with the power to
OVERCOME sin (Rom 6:18, 22, 1 John 5:4, 5).

c. If you sin, you have God’s PROMISE of ready forgiveness (1 John 1:9 / Ref. Isa
1:18).

C. THE WORD OF GOD IMPLIES THE FOLLOWING CHANGES SHOULD BE DEVELOPING

IN OUR LIVES AS WE WALK AND GROW IN GOD CONTINUALLY.

1. A growing HUNGER to know God and His Word (1 Pet 2:2).

2. A genuine DESIRE to keep God’s commandments and to have a changed life (1Jn 2:3).

3. A growing LOVE for other Christians and a desire for their FELLOWSHIP (1 John 4:7).

4. A desire to TELL others about Jesus Christ. E.g. Peter and John (Acts 4:20).

D. ASSURANCE OF SALVATION IS NOT BASED ON YOUR FEELING.

1. A new believer must learn to place his faith on the PROMISES of God, and not on how he
feels. Feelings are often influenced by circumstances.

2. Focus your faith on the unchanging TRUTH of God and not on the changing
circumstances. (2 Cor 5:7)
My Faith Class Lesson 1

E. LET US REVIEW WHAT WE HAVE LEARNED FROM THIS LESSON:

By believing and accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior,

we become children of God and we are said to be born again.

1. The Meaning of born again:

 We have new life.

 God puts His Spirit in us. We are now a dwelling place of God.

 We have a new nature.

 We belong to the Kingdom of God.

2. As a believer of God:

 We received eternal life.

 We became children of God and belong to the family of God.

 We call our God “Abba Father”.

 We received the forgiveness of sins.

3. The word of God implies the following changes should be developing in our lives
continually as we walk and grow in God.

 A growing hunger to know God and His Word.

 A genuine desire to keep God’s commandments and to have a changed life.

 A growing love for other Christians and a desire for their fellowship.

 A desire to tell others about Jesus Christ.

4. Assurance of salvation is not based on your feeling but on:

 The promises of God

 The truth of God

My Faith Class Lesson 4

THE Work of the HOLY SPIRIT

MEMORY VERSE: ACTS 1:8

A. THE Three Works OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.

1. Dwelling of BELIEVER’S (John 14:171 Cor 12:13,).

This is received when a person received Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior during salvation
and becomes a member of the Body of Christ.

2. ANOINTING of Believer’s (Acts 2:1-4).

It is the anointing, EMPOWERING and enabling of the Holy Spirit upon a believer for
effective ministry (Acts 10:38).

This is an enabling work for a believer of the Lord Jesus Christ to live a victorious,
overcoming life. It is a distinct and separate experience from salvation.

Eg. The apostles (Luke 3:16, Acts 1:8).

The people of Samaria (Acts 8:14-17).
The believers in Ephesus (Acts 19:1-2).

3 FILLING of BELIEVER’S (Eph 5:18,Gal 5:22-24)

This to experience in our daily walk in order to overcome.

B. THE IMPORTANCE OF THE Works OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.

1. It is an affirmation or SEAL of the believers’ faith as a member of the Body of Christ

(John 7:37-39).

2. It is a GIFT, which every believer has a privilege to ask from God (Luke 24:49, Acts 2:38-
39).

3. It is a CHANNEL whereby we receive our spiritual giftings from God (1 Cor 12:4-11).
My Faith Class Lesson 4

C. STEPS TO RECEIVE THE EMPOWERMENT (Works) OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.

When can one receive the empowerment (works) of the Holy Spirit?

When we are ready to receive, the Holy Spirit is ready to fill us (Luke 11:13). There is no set
pattern for receiving the empowerment (works) of the Holy Spirit neither is there a set standard
experience for everybody.

However, the following are steps of faith in our preparation to receive the empowerment
(Work) of the Holy Spirit:

1. REPENT from all known sins (Acts 2:38).

2. RENOUNCE idolatry (1 Cor 10:14).

3. DESIRE and THIRST for the infilling of the Holy Spirit (John 7:37).

4. ASK from God (Luke 11:13).

5. BELIEVE with faith (Heb 11:6).

6. YIELD your will, mind and mouth for the empowerment (work) of the Holy Spirit (Rom 6:13).

7. Continue to TRUST and thank God for His gift (1 Thes 5:18).

D. THE EVIDENCES OF THE EMPOWERMENT (Works) OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.

1. SPEAKING in different (various) native language or tongues (Acts 2:4).

2. POWER to witness (Acts 1:8).

3. GLORIFY Christ (John 16:7, 14-15).

4. SPIRIT-FILLED prayer (Rom 8:26-27).

4. REVELATION of the Scriptures (John 14:26).

5. Daily GUIDANCE (Rom 8:14, Acts 16:6-10).

6. Supernatural LIFE and health (Isa 58:11).

7. God’s unconditional LOVE in our heart (1 John 4:12-13, 16).

My Faith Class Lesson 4

8. Progressive MATURITY in Christ (1 John 2:12-14).

E. THE BENEFITS OF PRAYING IN THE HOLY SPIRIT.

It enables us to:

1. Speak DIRECTLY to God, not to man (1 Cor 14:2).

2. BUILD up our spirit man (Jude 20).

3. Express our thanksgiving and MAGNIFY God (1 Cor 14:15-17).

4. Make INTERCESSIONS according to the perfect will of God (Rom 8:26-27).

5. Be refreshed and enter into a spiritual REST in God (Isa 28:11-12).

6. Guard against infirmities and SICKNESSES (Rom 8:26).

7. STAND against Satan’s works (Eph 6:10-18).

8. EDIFY others when there is accurate interpretation of the message released (1 Cor 14:5).
My Faith Class Lesson 5

DEALING WITH TEMPTATION

MEMORY VERSE: 1 CORINTHIANS 10:13

A. FACTS ABOUT TEMPTATION

1. Temptation is a TESTING of one who is being drawn away by his own desires and
enticement (James 1:14).

2. Every Christian must LEARN how to deal with temptations (Matt 6:13).

3. Everyone FACES temptation everyday (1 Cor 10:13).

4. You know you are being tempted when you feel the urge to do something against
GOD’S WILL (James 1:15).

5. Temptation in itself is not SIN. If it is not dealt with correctly, it can become sin very soon
(James 1:15).

6. Many Christians felt CONDEMNED after being tempted, thinking that they have already
committed sin. However, this is not true. Jesus was tempted in every way but did not sin
(Luke 4:12-13).

7. God does not TEMPT us, but He allows us to be tempted to show us where we stand and
realize our dependence on Him (James 1:13, Deut 8:2).

B. 3 SOURCES OF TEMPTATION

1. SATAN

Satan is clearly shown in the Scriptures as a SOURCE of temptation to sin. We must

understand the tricks of Satan and avoid being tempted (James 4:7, 1 Pet 5:8).
My Faith Class Lesson 5

2. THE FLESH

This source refers to the OLD SIN NATURE within us. This old nature (old habits in life)
is in constant conflict with the new nature of the Christian life. We must learn to recognize
temptations from this source and to overcome them (Gal 5:16-21, Rom 8:5-8).

3. THE WORLD

This is a SUBTLE attempt to make a Christian conform to the SYSTEM of the world.
Examples: love for money, security in possessions and personal success, independence
from God, and other ideas that spring from a godless and fallen society. The deciding
factor is the human will (James 4:4, 1 John 2:15-17).

C. CONDITIONS FOR VICTORY

1. Be ALERT.

In many cases, a Christian is defeated because he is not ALERT to

The possibility of temptation.

“Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong” (1 Cor 16:13).

2. Be FILLED.

You cannot successfully OVERCOME temptation in your own strength.

“Be filled with the Spirit” (Eph 5:18b).

3. Be QUICK.

Temptation must be dealt with when it ARISES. Don’t put it off.

“God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. Therefore submit to God. Resist
the devil and he will flee from you” (James 4:6-7).

4. Know biblical ESCAPES.

The Bible is filled with these ‘means of escapes’. For these reasons, a GROWING
knowledge of God’s Word will help to achieve victory over temptation.

“Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who
commits sexual immorality sins against his own body” (1 Cor 6:18).
My Faith Class Lesson 5

5. OBEY by faith.

You must LEARN to do what God says regardless of how you feel.

“As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord so walk in Him” (Col 2:6).

6. DISCIPLINE the mind.

The devil is constantly trying to inject EVIL THOUGHTS into our minds. Get your mind
filled with the Word of God so that there won’t be room for such tempting thoughts.

“If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lie at the door and

its desire is for you, but you should rule over it” (Gen 4:7).

7. WATCH and PRAY

Prayer plays an essential role in achieving VICTORY in the fight against yielding to
temptations.

“Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The Spirit indeed
is willing, but the flesh is weak” (Matt 26:41).
My Faith Class Lesson 6

THE CHRISTIAN AND MONEY

MEMORY VERSE: MATTHEW 6:33

A. WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT MONEY OR WEALTH?

The Bible has much to say about money or wealth because it is a very important subject. The
Word of God gives us:

1. A BALANCED view on wealth;

2. Principles on HANDLING money;

3. Specific INSTRUCTIONS on tithing and offering.

Our ATTITUDE towards money or wealth must not be based on the principles of this world but
on the teachings of the Bible. From the Word of God, we learn that:

1. It is God who gives a person the ABILITY to make wealth. It is not wrong to POSSESS
wealth, but it is important to have a right attitude towards it (Deut 8:18).

2. EVERYTHING we have belongs to God. We are only STEWARDS or trustees (Ps 24:1).

B. WHAT SHOULD BE OUR RIGHT ATTITUDE TOWARDS MONEY?

1. Be FREE from the love of money. COVETOUSNESS or greed is a form of idolatry (1 Tim
6:10).

2. Have RIGHT priorities. Our earthly wealth and riches, which is TEMPORARY, must not
be our goal (Matt 6:33).

3. Let God be your MASTER, not your money. You can own wealth but don’t let it OWN you
(Matt 6:24).
My Faith Class Lesson 6

4. Let God be your TREASURE. Set your HEART on God, not on earthly riches (Luke
12:21, Matt 9:19-21).

5. Be a GENEROUS giver. Invest in the Kingdom of God. Money is to be spent WISELY

and not hoarded (Pro 11:24-25).

C. WHAT ARE TITHES AND OFFERINGS?

1. Tithes.

a. God in His Word teaches us that 10% of all of our income

BELONGS to Him. They are holy to the Lord. It is a way to remind
Us that God are still our ultimate PROVIDER and SUSTAINER (Lev 27:30-33).

b. Tithing is the act of bringing and returning to God what is RIGHTLY His. Otherwise
we will be known to ROB God (Mal 3:8).

c. Tithing is a commandment of God that requires little faith, but simple OBEDIENCE to
fulfill it (Pro 3:9).

d. Tithes are brought to God’s “storehouse” (Mal 3:10), referring to your LOCAL Church
or ministries where you RECEIVE teaching and impartation of the Word. There the
work of the GOSPEL may be continued (Deut 8:18, 1 Cor 9:14).

2. Offerings.

a. These are what we give ABOVE and BEYOND our tithes. It is not COMPULSORY
but strongly encouraged (Luke 6:38, Pro 11:24-25).

b. Tithing is an act of obedience, but giving of offering is an act of faith and

COMMITMENT.

 The early church DEMONSTRATED a great spirit of giving and sharing among
the believers (Act 4:33-35, 2 Cor 8:1-5).

 In giving, we apply the principle of SOWING and REAPING (2 Cor 9:6, Act
20:35).
My Faith Class Lesson 6

D. HOW SHOULD WE GIVE?

1. Give GENEROUSLY (2 Cor 8:3).

2. Give CHEERFULLY (2 Cor 9:7).

3. Give WILLINGLY (1 Chro 29:9, 17).

E. WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF GIVING?

1. It frees us from the LOVE of money.

2. It frees us from SELFISHNESS and develops in us the spirit of giving.

3. It DEVELOPS the fruit of the Spirit (Phi 4:17).

4. It RELEASES and overflowing blessing’ from the Lord (Mal 3:8-10).

5. It MAKES us a channel of God’s blessings.

My Faith Class Lesson 7

WATER BAPTISM AND HOLY COMMUNION

MEMORY VERSE: MARK 16:16

A. WHAT IS WATER BAPTISM?

The word ‘Baptism’ is derived from the Greek word ‘baptizo’ which means
‘To dip’, ‘to immerse’ or ‘to plunge’. Jesus and His followers went into the
Water and then came out of the water, giving us an example to follow.

1. The BAPTISM of Jesus (Mk 1:9-10).

2. John the Baptist (John 3:23).

3. Philip BAPTIZING a Eunuch (Act 8:38).

B. THE COMMISSION JESUS LEFT FOR HIS FOLLOWERS.

Water Baptism is ADMINISTERED by the Church on the AUTHORITY of the Lord Jesus
Christ Himself (Matt 28:19, Mk 16:16).

C. THE SPIRITUAL SIGNIFICANCE OF WATER BAPTISM.

1. By being baptized, a person EXPRESSES his faith in the Lord Jesus (Act 2:38).

2. By being baptized, a person is identified with DEATH of the old life and the
RESURRECTION to new life in Christ Jesus (Rom 6:1-11).

3. A person rises out of water with the SAME new life with which Jesus rose from the grave
(Rom 6:4).

4. By being baptized, a person is CIRCUMCISED spiritually. In baptism then, we leave the

old life, dead and buried, and live a life that is glorifying to God (Col 2:11-12).
My Faith Class Lesson 7

A. WHAT IS HOLY COMMUNION?

1. Holy Communion is also known as the LORD’S SUPPER and breaking of bread. It was
INSTITUTED by our Lord Jesus Christ on the night that He was betrayed (Matt 26:26-30,
Lk 22:19-20).

2. The bread and wine SYMBOLIZE His body broken and blood shed for us on the Cross.

FAITH TOWARDS GOD

MEMORY VERSE: HEBREWS 11:1

A. FAITH IS:

1. It is the ASSURANCE of things hoped for, the conviction/proof

of things not seen (Heb 11:1).

2. It is TRUSTING God according to His Word.

3. It is not based on evidence of our SENSES concerning the material world, but on the
eternal, invisible truths and realities revealed by God.

B. THE IMPORTANCE OF FAITH:

1. Faith is necessary for SALVATION (Acts 16:31).

2. Faith is the only basis for RIGHTEOUS living (Rom 1:17).

3. Faith makes us a GOD-PLEASER (Heb 11:6).

4. Faith JUSTIFIES us (Rom 5:1).

5. Faith makes us an OVERCOMER (Mk 11:23).

6. Through faith, God’s POSSIBILITIES become our POSSIBILITIES (Matt 19:26).

C. THE SOURCE OF TRUE FAITH:

1. The only SOURCE of true Biblical faith is through the HEARING of the Word of God (Rom
10:17).

2. It is God who INITIATES the relationship through His Word.

My Faith Class Lesson 9

3. Abraham serves as an example to us of how to receive and RESPOND to the Word of

God. The manner in which Abraham responded and MANIFESTED faith is the manner in
which we must follow:

Read Rom 4:16-22; Heb 11:8-12

a. He HEARD the Word (Rom 4:13-21).

b. He PLACED his hope according to that Word (Rom 4:18-19).

c. He REFUSED to accept natural evidence that contradicted the Word (Rom 4:18).

d. He did not WAIVER in his commitment to that Word (Rom 4:20).

e. By faith, he GLORIFIED God for the Word (Rom 4:20).

D. THE EXPRESSION OF TRUE FAITH IN THE LIFE OF A BELIEVER:

There are two main ways in which faith is ACTIVELY expressed in the life of a believer.

1. It is expressed by the CONFESSION of our mouth (Rom 10:9).

Confession in this sense is the natural expression of the heart’s faith.

2. It is expressed by the CONFESSION of our actions (James 2:17-18).

Faith and Works are inseparably linked.

E. TRUE FAITH PRODUCES IN US:

1. PEACE with God (Rom 5:1).

We have been justified by faith through our Lord Jesus
Christ to enter into God’s peace.

2. HOPE of God’s glory (Rom 5:2).

We rejoice in the hope of God’s glory, which is the anchor of our faith.

3. JOY in serving (Acts 16:34, 1 Pet 1:8).

We rejoice with thanksgiving in serving God bringing salvation to all mankind.

4. BOLDNESS in preaching (2 Cor 4:13).

The spirit of faith will stir us to speak with confidence and accuracy.
