1. SCOPE

To establish a procedure for calibration of measuring tapes used for various

measurements during the process of fabrication or during all stages of inspection.

2. RESPONSIBILITY

The QC Section shall be responsible for implementation and maintenance of this

procedure.

3. PROCEDURE

a. Calibration

(i) The master tape shall have:

- the manufacturer's certificate of calibration, or
- a calibration certificate from an authorised agency.
(ii) The master tape shall be under the custody of QC Section and shall not
be used for routine measurements.

(iii) The following steps shall be followed for calibration:

Step 1 : The master tape shall be laid out on the floor.

Step 2 : The tape to be calibrated shall be laid parallel to the master tape.
Step 3 : Both the tapes shall be pulled by hand such that they are
Straight. The difference in reading between master tape (tm)
and new tape (tn) shall be recorded at intervals specified
below: interval for calibration of tapes with length less than
or equal to 10 metres shall be 5 metres. Interval for calibration
of tapes with length longer than 10 metres shall be 10 metres
.
Step 4: The actual ambient temperature and result of calibration (tm-tn)
shall be recorded in form no. F04I28.
Step 5: All tapes calibrated as specified above shall be labelled with a
