TOPIC

The topic that I have chosen for this E-poster is Safety Footwear Classifications and
requirements which is one of the safety equipment that workers need to wear. The purpose
of this guide is to make sure that avoidable accidents do not happen. The reason why I
chose this topic is because this guide has been used globally and have been an effective
way of avoiding any accidents. It is useful for anyone operating in a warehouse, the
industrial or agricultural arena, with big things or machinery, hazardous products or
chemicals that must wear the appropriate safety boots.

EXPLANATION

1. Toe Protection – Safety Basic (SB): SB safety boots is merely the fundamental
standard for safety footwear. These have a steel toe that can withstand a 200-joule
impact. They may also contain extra safety features, which will be represented by
different symbols. For example, if you see SB-P, it signifies that the safety footwear
also features Penetration Resistance of the Midsole.
2. Anti-static, Oil-Resistant & Energy Absorption (S1): While the SB classification
includes the fundamental protection, S1 also includes antistatic protection, fuel oil
resistance, and energy absorption in the heel. Other symbols, such as S1-P as
shown above, can be added. This type of footwear is widely used since it is advised
for electricians, mechanics, and craftspeople, among others.
3. Prevents Water Penetration (S2): Although this form of footwear is quite similar to
S1, the difference is that this type of footwear has more features, such as water
absorption and penetration resistance. S2 safety footwear, often known as safety
boots or work boots, is most worn with a high wedge. It is appropriate for high-
humidity situations, such as food storage and transportation, or construction
activities, among others.
4. Plus Midsole for Penetration Resistance (S3): When 110 kg of force is applied to
S3 safety boots, the safety sole won't be punctured, and if the safety sole is
composed of metal, it won't corrode either. The S3 safety shoe is also the most
popular in challenging job environments like mining, agriculture, industries, or
construction because to the raised sole.
5. Midsole Penetration Resistance (S1P): S1P footwear works effectively in the
construction industry. Although the S1P standard and the S3 standard are very
comparable, S1P safety shoes are frequently less expensive. They are therefore
practical for construction firms with a large workforce. Workers who want high-quality
safety shoes at reasonable pricing should choose S1P shoes. Additionally, they can
be utilised in steel mills and numerous other sectors. They can also be worn by first
aid and electrical professionals. This is because S1P safety shoes are designed for
indoor use.
6. Heat Resistance Out-Sole (HRO): The sole offers heat contact resistance up to
300º C. Produced from two layers of different densities which are rubber-nitrile
outsole and expanded polyurethane sole. Both layers are injected to the upper,
ensuring its perfect bond and preventing delamination and ungluing. These soles are
abrasion, fat and oil and hydrocarbons resistant and provide heat and cold insulation.
Also included is the energy absorbing system in the heel area and relief sole for
increased grip.
