The Sixth Sense

The Sixth Sense is a drama, mystery and thriller film directed by M. Night Shyamalan
in 1999. Leading actors include Bruce Willis, who plays Malcom Crowe, and Haley
Osment, who plays Cole Sear. This movie was nominated for a total of six Oscars,
and won several other prizes. It was set in Philadelphia in 1998.
At the start of this movie we meet Malcolm Crowe who is a child psychologist that
received an award on the same night that he is visited by a very unhappy ex-patient
who shoots him. After this encounter, Malcolm recovers, and takes on a new patient,
a young boy, named Cole, with the same ills as the ex-patient. Apparently Cole “sees
dead people”, so Crowe spends a lot of time with the child, much to the dismay of his
wife. Both Malcolm and Cole make great discoveries about themselves during this
film.
This movie is, for me, one of my favorites, having been the one who made me fall in
love with the work of M. Night Shyamalan (Director and writer). The supernatural big
plot twists are a striking feature of the films written and directed by him, and The
Sixth sense was no exception, having a surprising and touching ending. Not only the
story and plot were touching, but also the representation of each participant in the
film making it impossible not to be moved by the performances, especially by Bruce
Willis’s, Haley Osment’s and Tony Collette’s (plays Cole's mother) interpretations.
Another aspect that made this film much better was its own atmosphere, which made
us very uncomfortable throughout the film, but it was never scary, which is curious,
as this film is a ghost story.
Finally, one last factor, which turned the film upside down, was the final revelation,
which changed our whole perspective of the Movie in that final moment. Making it
unforgettable.
In conclusion, I highly recommend this movie to thriller lovers. And to anyone who is
planning on watching it, I recommend paying close attention to the small details of
the film.
