I. BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Online learning is a new normal because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The academic

performance of the student may decrease due to the lack of internet connection, gadgets and

other reasons. Closing of school affect students because of disruption of teacher and students’

networks, leading to poor performance. Schools and colleges are moving towards educational

technologies for student learning to avoid a strain during the pandemic season. Hence, the

present study’s objective is to develop and test a conceptual model of student’s satisfaction

pertaining to online teaching during COVID-19, where both students and teachers have no other

option than to use the online platform uninterrupted learning and teaching. The transition to

online learning has implications not only for teachers, who need to change their courses but

also for students, who need to adapt to the new learning environment. Educators and parents

are taking notice and many are considering whether the shift to online education will lead to

lasting changes for students who move out of the classroom. One of the most important

consequences of the transition to online learning is its impact in academic performance. Online

learning for children improves student accessibility. Students must be organized, self-motivated,

and have a high level of time management to participate in an online program. Online learning

methods can be an effective alternative educational medium for mature and self-disciplined

pupils but are unsuitable for learning environments that depend on the learner. The main benefit

of asynchronous, online learning is that it allows students to fully participate in high-quality

learning situations, where distance learning makes it difficult or impossible to learn on the

ground. It is essential for teachers to keep their online lessons clear, engaging, and interactive

so that students can concentrate on the lessons. Students' commitment to time is often

misinterpreted as meaning that online courses require less time and effort than traditional

courses. Online students can participate in internal class discussions and complete

assignments, essays, and projects. This shows the effects of not being able to interact with

other students and teachers in an online school, which can result in serious negative effects.

Online learning can lead to students not developing the necessary communicative skills. In

addition, students must have high-speed internet access at home, which can lead to

complications if it is not available.

II.STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This study will help to know the impact of online learning on academic performance of students

in Muntindilaw National High School. It aims to the following questions:

1. What is the profile of the respondents?

a. Name (optional)

b. Gender

c. Age

2. What is the impact of online learning on academic performance of students in Muntindilaw

National High School?

3. Does online learning have an effect on the academic performance of Muntindilaw National

High school students?

III. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

By doing this study, the researcher will be able to know if the online learning has

effects on the academic performance of students in Muntindilaw National High school. This

study will help to know what is the effect of online learning on academic performance of

students in Muntindilaw National High School. And also, this study helps to know on how online

learning affects the academic performance of students in Muntindilaw National High School.

IV. METHODOLOGY

A. RESEARCH DESIGN

This type of research is qualitative because this study will collect the statement

of respondents. Case study was used in conducting this study. Case study is a research

methodology that will help in exploration of a phenomenon within some particular context

through various data sources. It will collect data through survey . This study will also used

factor analysis to know the statement of the the respondents.

B. RESPONDENTS

The students of Muntindilaw National High School will be the respondents of this

study. There are seventeen grade 11 Students who voluntarily to answer the survey and

questionnaires.

C. DATA GATHERING

The data that was used in this study was obtained from all the collected datas

through survey in the random voluntarilly respondents.

This table will show the number of response and this table was used to determine

the percentage if online learning has an effect on the academic performance of students.

V. EVALUATION

Here are the following findings of the study:

1. Profile of the Respondents

a. There are 5 boys and 12 girls among the respondents

b. Students ages range from 16-18 years old

2. What is the impact of online learning on academic performance of students in

Muntindilaw National High school?

a. Some students have difficulty in online learning, they didn’t learn well. It affects the

academic performances especially in performance tasks like to do physical activity.

Online learning affects the academic performance of students by lacking the

confidence of students. They didn’t have much time to do learning tasks because

they doing household chores, they lazy, and some other reasons.

3. Does oline learning have an impact on academic performance of students in Muntindilaw

national High school?

a. There are 15 out of 17 or 88.4% of students said that online learning has an impact

on their academic performance.

b. Based from the results of survey there are 2 out 17 or 11.6% of students said that

there was no change or impact on their academic performance.

IV. CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

Based on the result, It was affirmed that online learning have an effect on

academic performance of the students. There are only small percent of students said that online

learning has no impact on their academic performance. Online learning limits the capability of

the students to perform well. Some students become lazy to do learning tasks. Students have

difficult in online learning because of the slow internet connectivity, lack of gadgets to use, don’t

have much time to do learning task because of their work or household chores.

It suggested to stop online learning as soon as possible and have face to face

classes to ensures a better understanding and recollection of lesson context
