Devoy Brown - Lines of Latitude & Longitude Activity 3
Devoy Brown - Lines of Latitude & Longitude Activity 3
Forms: 4 C-I
Instructions
1. Carefully study the grid map (diagram) below and calculate the lines of latitude
NOTE: latitudinal lines are read FIRST, then you give the longitude.
You give the latitude 1st (that is, the horizontal line going across) and it’s
positioned on the 10° line, below the 0° (equator) and so the answer is 10° S
You then you do the longitude (the vertical line going down) where X is on the
line 15° W because it passes the equator going towards the West.
Final answer would therefore be 10°N latitude 15° W longitude (10°N 15° W)
Remember latitudinal lines run from East to West but are measured from
North to South, hence you give your answers either North or South latitude.
Remember that longitudinal lines run from North to South but are measured
1
from East to West, hence you give your answers either East or West Longitude.
Put the letter O anywhere on the grid map (diagram) and write your answer.
2. Students will determine the Longitude and Latitude of the locations on the map below. Enter your
answers in the spaces provided below, then grade your answers. Each Longitude and Latitude
must be entered with a single space between the degrees and the N, S, E or W. For example, "10
W". The N, S, E and W must be entered as a capital letter.
A. 60 N 90 W D. 60 S 60 E
B. 0 N 150 W E. 30 N 150 E

C. 30 S 60 W F. 50 N 70 E
