Research is to see what everybody else has seen and to think what nobody else has thought.

A very good morning to the esteemed judges, respected teachers and everyone present
here. This is me Sakchi Sinha along with two of my group members Soumya Verma and
Deep Prabha and we as the BSR2 group stand here to present our research conducted on
the topic ‘’ Isolation and Characterisation of lead resistant bacteria from soils of Patna and
their potential for plant growth promoting characters. ‘’

In the time span of these 10 minutes we will be discussing the following outlines-
Introduction to the topic followed by objectives, method, results & conclusion respectively.
So beginning with the introduction to the topic –
Since our entire research was about a heavy metal resistant bacteria we first need to
understand that what are heavy metals actually.
So heavy metals are those elements that have a molecular weight greater than 53, a density
greater than 6gm /cm3 and withan atomic number greater than 20. Elements like lead,
copper , mercury etc comes under the group of heavy metals.
Also the heavy metal pollution is a serious global environment problem due to the rapid
development of industries and these heavy metal toxicity have several health effects on
body as they can damage and alter the functioning of organs such as brain, kidney etc.
Among all such heavy metals our research was aimed at lead , which is a major pollutant
found in environment and is a potential carcinogen too.
Bacteria have adapted to presence of heavy metal ions such as lead in their habitat and are
thus known as lead resistant bacteria.
It has been reported that under condition of heavy metal stress, the growth of plants is
enhanced byauxin and gibberellin which are synthesized by rhizobacteria and are called
plant growth promoting hormones.

The objectives of this research were-

1. To isolate lead resistant bacteria from soils of different areas of Patna .
2. To characterize the isolates based on morphological, physiological, & biochemical
tests .
3. Calculation of minimum inhibitory conc.
4. Determination of plant growth promoting rhizobacteria characters. ( PGPR)
