Malayep UMC is organized as a Local Church in 2006 during the 18 th Regular Session of the Central
Luzon Philippines Annual Conference at Nipaco UMC on May 5-7, 2006. It was through the
leadership effort of Rev. Eduardo Corpuz and members of Dicolor UMC that it was organized, under
the superintendence of Rev. Wilson G. Vinluan and the episcopal leadership of Bishop Rev.
Benjamin Justo.

The founding members of the church were the families of Brgy. Kagawad and Mrs. Benjamin
Magaoay, Mr. and Mrs. Apolonio Balaba, Mr. and Mrs. Ricardo B. Magaoay, Mr. and Mrs. Paulo
Balaba, and Mrs. Soledad M. Mamawal. The church building is a donation from the Korean
Methodist Church through the coordination of Rev. Dr. Esrom Sales. The church lot, on the other
hand, is a generous gift from SPO4 Edgardo Magaoay and his family (now an active Pastor of the
United Methodist Church concentrating on Mission Works).

THE NARRATIVE OF MALAYEP UMC

The mission journey mission to Malayep, Gerona, Tarlac is traced back as early as 1977 through
intermittent informal visitations of church workers coming from Gerona UMC. This narrative,
however, is not recorded but orally recalled. It has been also recalled that the Moncada UMC is
instrumental in the opening of the mission. Unfortunately, there are not enough shreds of evidence
on the record for these oral narratives.

In our quest to record the making of Malayep UMC, we start recalling the oral narratives starting
from the year 1990, when Pastor Pedro Gregorio, a Student Pastor then, set foot in the place to
gather people and conduct Bible Study. He stayed around 8 months in the place which is followed by
an intermittent visitation and Bible Study of the late Rev. Domingo R. Lacayanga. There was then a
“kubo” whereby members gathered for Bible Study and worship services.

When Rev. Lacayanga was transferred in 1992, another assistant pastor of Gerona UMC, Pastor
Antonio Pacheco, was sent to manage the spiritual affairs in the place. They continue to gather in
the “kubo” beneath Tamarind trees where the present pool of Magaoay Family is established. It is
said that there are around 12 people gathering there but most often 5-7 people are attending.

Meanwhile, this consistent group of people has been religiously meeting for this intentional
discipleship ministry of the church. This began the conception of a vision to build a United Methodist
sanctuary in Brgy. Malayep.

However, an unavoidable circumstance stopped this meeting for a long period. Until came a time
that Malayep Mission was revived through Pastor Philip Eugenio with his team coming from Dicolor
UMC. They patiently work out the mission that paints their unwavering zeal for the Great
Commission.

Their fervent prayer and zeal for the mission contribute to the foundation that was laid for the
members. Sometime after, a lapse again came to interfere but by the grace of God, it was revived
through the works of Rev. Dr. Eduardo Corpuz, the successor of Pastor Eugenio in Dicolor.
Not long after, SPO4 Edgardo Magaoay with his loving wife decided to donate a portion of the lot
from their property where our church building is presently erected. A Korean Missionary, through
the coordination of Rev. Dr. Esrom Sales, generously partnered with the congregation in order to
establish this beautiful sanctuary.

In the year 2006, the congregation was recognized to be the Malayep Seowon UMC of the Central
Luzon District.

After a year of pastoring the church, Rev. Dr. Corpuz handed the key to Rev. Larry Sumaoang in the
conference year 2006. His skills signed the spacious pastoral house. By his blueprint that it was built.
He was lifted from the church in 2009 and succeeded Rev. Jayson Vergara who stayed for 3 years
(2009-2012), nurturing the members and expanding the mission of the church to the community.

In 2012-2015, Rev. Menzi Talub succeeded Rev. Vergara. He works out consolidating the faith and
the skills of the members so that they may become fruitful disciples of Christ. When Rev. Jimmy
Sabado administered the church from 2015-2018, the congregation is in its vitality. Rev Sabado
experiences a contemporary spirit in their worship. Not only that he continued to nurture and
evangelized, but he also is responsible for installing the canopy of the pastoral house and planting
bananas in the backyard of the church where everyone can enjoy its fruit in its season.

Rev. Rizalino Castillo succeeded Rev. Sabado. A year of church administration from 2018-2019 took
him many challenges as he was pastoring three circuits. However, he was able to manage the church
affairs well.

In 2019 – 2020, Rev. Ishmael Colis, came to replace the administration of Rev. Rizalino Castillo. He
also stayed a year of service in the church. Then a missionary Volunteer Worker under the
supervision of Rev. Dr. Antonio Pacheco is sent. Sister Angelita Pascua ministered to the spiritual
affairs of the church in 2020-2021 but with the administration of Rev. Dr. Pacheco. In 2021 – 2022,
Rev. Dr. Pacheco, came to administer the church. Despite the pandemic, there is tremendous growth
in its finances during his administration. The financial is reflected in the projects accomplished during
his time. Air-conditioning units have been installed, the altar was constructed roughly, and he left a
good amount intended for the completion of the unfinished projects.

Rev. Dr. Pacheco also has initiated fellowships with the whole church especially the young people
and the church has a warm spirit of blended worship.

In June 2022, Rev. Rogemer N. Sison took place the administration of Rev. Dr. Pacheco. In his short
period of time, the church, with the help of the church council, was able to continue the unfinished
projects such as the repairing and repainting of the ceiling and walls (in and out). And hoping to
accomplish more in the coming months and years.

IN GOD’S GLORY, may the church continue to shine in the community. May we remain steadfast in
our presence, prayer, gifts, service, and witness.
